Ron Thompson Senior Highlights

Thanks for the tape. Not certain what we have in Thompson. He has sure hands, probably the best attribute that we saw on the film, and played in an offense that got the ball out early to him. Although he was split out a lot on the tape, doesn't look like he has the kind of speed to do that here. Basically took advantage of size mismatches. Saw very little of his blocking ability on tape. On D, looks like he dominated with his size, but didn't look all that quick.

He sure looks like he can be a solid pass-catching TE, which would help our offense measurably. If, of course, the coaching staff puts him in the best position to succeed.

I thought his junior film looked better. Reminds me a little of Provo. Good hands and a decent athlete for size. Much like Provo Thompson will need to work on his blocking and running tighter routes.

I agree with Dmcnabbrules. Except Thompson shows more athleticism than what Povo showed coming out of high school Which tells me he will be better than Provo from start to finish at SU. It took Provo a while to get going. Thompson can be an impact year 1 or 2.

LOOKS TO HAVE GREAT SIZE AND GOOD HANDS WITH BODY CONTROL

Glad to hear it's only one.
Well Smallwood makes 2 but that's already been out there. Not sure if anything can change either, but that's what I've heard.

Glad to hear it's only one.

Glad to hear its just one but not glad to hear it is our only DE commit thus far. We are going to be so thin at DE its ridiculous.

Micah Robinson - a redshirt Soph who hasn't proved very much yet. Hope he can excel while learning on the job.
Sharpe - a Senior who seemingly underproduced this past year.
Donnie Simmons - a redshirt Frosh who is a little undersized. Hope he hit the gym hard in the offseason.

Robinson is the only one with a more prototypical height and weight for the position. The others don't have measurables that are comparable to the (6'-5 or 6'-6" and 250-265 lb)DE's we've had the past 3 years. We may be forced to rotate some DT's in at the DE position. Beaulieu probably gets switched back.

No way Poncho plays this year even if he gets here. No way. Don't expect Beaulieu to make an impact either.

Poncho is pretty much prep bound from what I was told..

Might not be a bad thing. Watching his video from last year he looked like our prototypical NYS recruit. Filled with potential, but raw, and playing against questionable competition. Add to that he missed half of his junior year with injury, and Milford could help this kid tremendously.

If Poncho is prep-bound, that leaves another spot open for us to bring someone in. Is it wishful thinking to have any surprises come NSD?

Weather he plays next year or not the sooner he gets hear the better, or I guess a year of prep wouldn't be bad I just feel like its pretty critical that he get hear. If we don't add another talented freshman to this class or JUCO we may look even thinner in 2013 because Sharpe will be gone then. That is a fairly long ways away I know. God forbid having any injuries at the position in the near future.

You know that we will have injuries. If SU has been consistent with anything over the last few years it's been getting injured at positions where we were thin to begin with.

Is it me or does he seem really slow coming out of a 3pt stance? It looked to me like he didn't explode out of the stance, but mostly just stood straight up and started to run.

That's something that can be coached though.

He's going to be a good one - has the ability to be a complete TE. As good as Provo was, Thompson is already bigger and looks like he could easily add twenty and not lose a step.

He's not a burner by any means, looks more Jason Witten than Vernon Davis if that males sense. And no, I'm not comparing him to them.

he turned DBs in circles on some routes.. Provo was more a find the open space guy than a get open guy.
