Room is certainly opening up.

These are million dollar questions. There are so many potential truths. Time will tell.

10-3
3-9
'Winning the NC' convo aside, his unique selling point is this culture of turning young boys into men, through Fran, Family, Football, & Faith. Its unique in that he actually lived the experiences he wants to give these kids. So, all of the space given to the non football side, I am a little surprised when the good ones leave.
Perhaps its all about the $$?
Perhaps its about winning?
Maybe we're better off without them?
Maybe we aren't?
Frans either captaining a sinking ship, OR he's in control & just navigating rough seas.
We won't really know until they step on the field.

Part of me is like, we were 3-9, so who cares who leaves? The other part gets concerned when these 4 stars who were very vocal about coming here for Frans culture , leave so easily.
He has to have had a talk with Nixon about adapting his offense to fit the players he has available at any time. If he hasn't after the last 8 games he will fail. I believe Fran has and Nixon will adjust the offense in the spring. If Nixon ever wants a Head Coaching Job , he has to show he can win with different types of players.

My understanding is every scholarship dollar above 85 comes out of your 20M school nil budget. So there is flexibility but it’s a question of how much impact do guys 86-105 have?
The $20 mil has nothing to do with NIL... that is this years salary cap on direct payments to players by schools... the football team will receive about $15 mil of that... each player can earn additional income through NIL.. Wildhack says he wants to keep scholarships at 85 to maximize the direct payments. The house settlement effectively shifts the burden of player compensation from NIL to the school.

I believe he misspoke saying 20M nil budget.

What he was referring to was that any scholarships we give above 85 takes away from our 20.5M revenue sharing pool up to max of 2.5M. Obviously the whole 20.5M isn’t allocated just to football but if it was it isn’t as simple as 20.5M/85 football players vs 20.5M/105 football players…the 105 has even less of a pool to start with because of the regulations.

You’re right I mis-labeled the school 20M as NIL.

But my point was about scholarships 86+ and what budget they come from. Thought I saw on ACCN scholarship 86 cost is deducted from 20M budget. If true that money is better spent to get starters out of portal.

But ChatGPT says it comes out of larger AD budget not the 20M so maybe I’m mistaken.

I’d be concerned if they were the 25’s for cultural reasons The 24 class was just thrown together. The key is how the 25s and 26s do who were recruited by Fran for a while just to Syracuse. We’ve retained all the key guys from the 25 thus far. I think we will see Demetres and AD emerge as leaders on D next year.

I kind of disagree with this take. We got 3 very good WRs, including a 4 star who is gone. Yasin Willis was the 10th best player in NJ, and 53rd best RB prospect nationally. We got really fast guys, we got really big guys. We got several promising DBs.

It was a Top 40 recruiting class (rankings 38, 40 and 42 with ESPN).

That's not counting the transfers, some of whom were elite.

Yes... the scholarship part has it's own funding... as far as going over 85 I don't think they will per Wildhack... the quote was something similar to.. "we are funding 85 scholarships next season"... going over will be a special circumstance but I really don't think they want to because Wildhack also said that he wanted the payments to be the maximum... so I'm thinking the 85 is fairly firm.

Many schools including most of the SEC have said they want to hold the 85 scholarship line. 20 extra scholarships is an extra $1.5m each year for the school AD. For players that will likely never see the field.

This mass exodus seems like what happened to Dion at Colorado...How are going to fill all these holes?

Not even close. We are over the limit of players on the team. Dion and Colorado where much different.
There will be 3000ish kidsin the portal. I'm sure we will be just fine.

pretty sure every new scholarship added counts against the $20.5 Million cap. 105 is the new roster max, but every scholarship above 85 is subtracted from that 20.5 million.

So a school like Syracuse is probably better off spending an additional $85k in your offers to players 1-20 to lure them to Syracuse than spending a 85k scholarship on players 86-105 and continuing to have walk ons.
