NJ TOC, for the state title.
What a win. And look who came to play.
Richardson led all scorers with 22. Converted huge shots including 5 triples when they needed it most. TR, a beastly 19 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks and was partly responsible for holding Karl Towns to 7 points. To be fair, Towns is obviously an amazing talent and was way ahead of years back then. RC did switch from zone to man during this game and frustrated Towns, took him out of his element. Still, the main point is Roberson was the better man that game. Dominated the paint and the glass. Even had a great drive from the right side and an outside shot inside the arc.
First chip for Roselle Catholic and these guys delivered.
After that incredible season, Roberson made his was to Central New York, while Malachi returned to Trenton Catholic where he made another run for the chip but fell short to his former teammates and RC.
TR had some early struggles, but the potential was there. I mentioned this on the recruiting forum, but Mali's handle was decent in high school. Great improvement from Soph to Senior season. Always aggressive when he drove and drew contact, great body control. My son and I saw him hit a 10 foot floater to take and keep the lead for good when he was playing for TCA in a tournament at Roselle Catholic. He had that ability to create his shot in multiple ways. And man, that stroke was a thing of beauty.
Well here they are again.
Both of them have come to play. Aggressive, attacking the lane and the rim and each making key contributions on a team, like JB says, that doesn't have much wiggle room. 7 guys at most playing minutes.
Either way, as good as these two are, we need to play as a team and stay assertive, pressure the ball on defense and be selective on offense. Gbinije. Cooney. Lydon. Coleman. Howard. Roberson. Richardson. All of them are important now. Doesn't matter who leads the way as long as we stay hungry, attack and push UNC, cause I have a feeling they're not backing down without a fight.
Let's bring it home, fellas!
