There's a question on Lou Alexander.

He was a JUCO in 2008 and 2009, and 2010 was a lost season for him.

I think his 5 year clock expires after 2012, making him a Senior eligibility wise.

If Jerome Smith files a hardship waiver for 2010, he could be reclassified as a RSoph.

Diabate is a Senior. 2 years at JUCO and he played here in 2011.

Yes Diabate should be labeled a true senior.

J Smith and Flemming only played 2 games as frosh. Smith got hurt. I don't know how the NCAA works so I put them in their current respective eligibility class with what is known.

Lou Alexander - if Lou was in Juco in 2008 then his clock is up. I labeled him based on 5 years to play 4 - didn't notice he was at JUCO in '08.

Since Smith played less than 4 games and missed the remainder of the season with an injury, he is eligible to file a hardship waiver with the NCAA which would wipe out 2010 for him. Same thing happened to Lavar Lobdell where he broke his wrist early in his freshman year, was granted the waiver, and he played 4 more years. Finally caught a TD in his last game too.

Flemming on the other hand is following the Johnnie Morant track. Only played 2 games as a frosh, and now he's a junior.

Wait, I thought Smith was already denied this?

He may not have even applied yet. He has until next season.

We won't know until 2014 when he shows up on the roster as a 5th year senior. :D

I'd love to see him get another year, I think he's developed significantly over the last year and to get a 5th year senior year for him would be a big bonus to the program.

So if Morris is out - which who the hell knows what is going on with him - that would make 18 true frosh, 14 RF, 6 RS, 9 true Soph, 5 RS Jr, 15 true Jr, 1 RS Sr, 6 true Sr, and 6 5th years. Total of 80. So we would have 5 schollies open right now if Morris doesn't make it, 4 if he does. Add Raymon, and the late DL and WR JUCO transfers, and that would leave 1 spot open if Morris does make it and 2 if he doesn't.

Wonder if there will be any other late additions before camp starts...paging Charles Davis, Quinta Funderburke, or PSU players

I updated Alexander and Diabate.

For you excel users I made this pipe delimited so you can put it into excel and format it.

If you don't know excel here are the directions:

*Paste it into excel
*highlight column A
*click data tab at the top
*click text to columns
*click delimited choice, click next
*check the 'other' button and put in a pipe shown here - | (pipe is shift and the button above enter | \ )
*click next and then finish

*highlight entire doc by clicking top left corner next to A and above row 1
*then double click the line between colums A and B. (this should make the columns nice and neat)

I think you miscounted.

There are 80 names listed (counting Morris). Should be 5 open scholarships, or 6 if Morris doesn't make it.

Add in Clark, Raymon, and Walls and we're at 83 if everyone shows up Saturday.

I'm not 100% sure how accurate this is, but I love the research and am waaaaaayyyyyyyy too lazy to do it on my own.

Going by this, what I love is the thing that jumps out the most -- as the classes get younger, the percentage of redshirts begins to climb.I threw out the seniors/redshirt juniors since it was clearly a transition class and tough to judge.

But if you look at the '10 class vs. the '11 class, the difference is pretty telling.

The '10 class saw 12 of 18 recruits currently on the roster play as true frosh. Of the 12 that played, my arbitrary judgment is that only Spruill and Lyn were truly ready to contribute in any meaningful way to a solid BCS program. Everyone else probably could have benefited from a redshirt.

Fast-forward to '11, last year's class's first year on campus, and just 9 of 23 freshmen played. Instead of 66.6%, that's less than 40%. And, of the nine who played, Crume forced his way onto the field and you're not likely to redshirt specialists (fisher and Rodgers). So that's really only six guys who played that probably could have benefited from an RS year. But if you figure you're rarely going to redshirt an entire class and some will have to contribute on specials and in backup roles each season, it would seem to suggest that we're finally building more legitimate depth.

Are we there yet? No, but it certainly feels like we're beyond the days of having half the freshman class running around on game day when it's clear they could use more time to develop.

Guess that's what being a CPA gets me, I can't count lol.

Kind of sucks though that USC, LSU, FSU, Texas, NC St, and Rutgers can find a need for PSU players, yet the 5-7 team 4 hours north can't with roster spots open.

May not be 100 but it's darn close. I went through the roster at su athletics and looked at every player's bio. If there was a year a kid didn't play i gave him a redshirt.

Doug can't talk about the kids until they officially enroll.

His HS coach, on the other hand, can fill in the gaps.

Some people are ridiculously paranoid. (And I'm not aiming this at you)

Doug has said he expected everyone to be on campus except Hilliard. Why not take him at his word?

Refering to Funderburke, "I'll believe it when i see it." I'm dreading Monday's presser. Marrone will give his stupid response, "from our standpoint all i can say is that he is not with the team, and because he is not with the team i am not able to talk about his situation, and before today I wasn't able to talk about his situation because he wasn't enrolled or part of this team. So from your standpoint you now understand where we are at from our standpoint with the entire standpoint of where we're at and where he is at in his standpoint... So, no he does not exist, You nor I can talk about him because I said so. @&% the fans and the media. My Show my rules! I'll answer what I want to answer and if I don't like it, I simply will say I can't talk about it because of some BS rule i made up.

Flemming on the other hand is following the Johnnie Morant track. Only played 2 games as a frosh, and now he's a junior.

Flemming's burn was worth it. RU couldn't cover him on a sure TD, so he drew a PI that eventually put our first TD on the board (if I recall correctly).

That was definitely better than Morant blocking on a play during a rainstorm at the end of an already lost game at ECU in 2000.

There's a question on Lou Alexander.

Diabate is a Senior. 2 years at JUCO and he played here in 2011.
Keeping track of eligibility and options sounds like a huge responsibility on someone in the AD.:p

Excellent stuff - thanks. I made a pivot table and got what tep624 posted except that Morris makes 19 true frosh total =80.

All they have to do is ask me.

My chart is even color coded. :D

Am I correct in assuming that since we have 80 and have 13 graduating that we can add 18 in this class? Seems like a lot.
