You have to think now we are going HARD after Bryant. If not,( and this is going to be very cold) we should definitely help find another situation(school) for Chino so we can get started on this penalty. This is of course barring any help we might get from an appeal. Somebody suggested to me that made no sense because it would hurt our big guy depth next year. Seriously? Any year we have only 10 to play with,we're gonna have a depth question somewhere.. I'm sure Chino could get better with hard work but, realistically,he probably won't have a huge impact at this level. Any thoughts?

Some of your reasoning depends on what the staff feels is Chino's potential for contributing in his final 2 years. Possibly 3 years if he wins an appeal on his redshirt season; but SU has other appeals that are more pressing! There is also the issue of cutting him loose while you are still recruiting his high school buddy. Might not be a good idea.

No doubt. My thoughts are if we DON'T get Bryant. I told you it would be a cold thing to do, but...

IMO, the only real depth concerns are related to having enough quality players to practice competitively. We all know that JB has difficulty counting past 7...7.5 come game time.

Sometimes I wonder if the number of players JB uses is based on how well the players are playing and not JB sticking to some philosophy.

I thought he would play better. Chino has been a project player. It is not clear from what we've seen so far if he will return dividends. If Bryant and DC2 play Chino will have very limited playing time.

Why do we want to make Chino pay the price the penalty? What did he do wrong? I'm a bit skeptical about the departures of BJ and Ron- again, what did they do wrong? This has a Calhoun-y feel to it. I've no problem if the staff sits down with each player and gives an honest assessment but anything that pushes him out the door is wrong. You recruited the kid- if he works hard, does his schoolwork and stays out of trouble the program should live up to it's obligation.

What everybody seems to forget is that if the only 2 people to leave after next season were the 2 graduating seniors, then somebody HAD to lose their scholarship in order to get down to the sanction levels of 10 scholarship players. Yes that was a long shot but those were the facts. With BJ leaving (voluntarily?) then that relieves the pressure of deciding who that would be, but still did not allow SU to fulfill it's verbal commitment to Moyer. Somebody was going to be disappointed. With Ron leaving, that now allows SU to fulfill that commitment. That would bring the roster to 10 at the end of '15-16 season. No room for Battle who still has to decide what he wants to do so SU's "obligation" to him is vastly reduced. Now mostly everybody assumes that McCullough will leave after next season but there is no guarantee of that as how well he will bounce back from his injury is an unknown. That confounds the roster # issue. If some of the people here are right and SU still could accept Thomas for next year, then that once again puts pressure on the roster numbers by the end of the 2015-16 season. To get to the 10 scholarship limit going into the 2016-17 season, kids were either going have to leave early or people were going to lose their scholarships. What this points out is the that NCAA sanctions not just hurt the university and/or JB but also hurts the players.

I thought there was a rule that allowed kids to transfer without having to sit out a year if the school got sanctioned. Why does this not apply to the SU kids? BJ dad suggests that BJ will benefit the year off to get bigger and stronger (probably regrets not doing it his freshman year) but Ron will now be a 25 year old senior by the time he finishes his eligibility.

I thought I read somewhere that if Coleman's injury doesn't progress next season that he might take his degree and move on.

ARE YOU NUTS? ;)

ARE YOU NUTS? ;)

Do you have something meaningful to say or are you just going to call me "nuts"? Stop being a flamer. Either you agree with my opinion or you don't. You don't have to be dick about it. I said "sometimes". I didn't say my opinion was fact.

Even though Coleman has two years left, I guess next year will be his last. He will graduate next year. If he's healthy, he should move on to play professionally either in the NBA or overseas. If he's not healthy, SU shouldn't extend his 5th year. It could also change if the schoarship sanctions are reduced. I'm not counting on the scholarships being reduced in the appeal.

my apologies, I meant it tongue in cheek hence the wink I agree with you 110%!!

made sure to drop you a like as well :)
I hate when people say this is set in stone or that is, I have had a bunch of wishes and hopes through the years. imo, the most recent, call me nuts but I think losing ron will hurt us more(maybe only just as much) as losing bj. We are really going to miss his on the ball pressure, more then people realize.

Enjoy!

No problem. Thanks for being civil.

If Coleman is healthy but rusty, then he may want that extra year to improve his situation. Remember that when he got hurt, he was not a force on the floor. Even if he returns to that form, he needs to improve to even think NBA. My thinking is that without Thomas, center will be adequate with Coleman. And I think that changing the scholarship #s the most likely of the sanctions to change other than vacating fewer wins. 3 a year is one of the harshest penalties of that ilk I can remember. Hurts school, coach AND players.

So by your logic, Cooney and G should leave this year too. :noidea:

My logic is all about health and nothing else. If he's healthy and he plays, and already graduating, he should consider playing professionally. If' he's not healthy, SU doesn't have to bring him back. What does this have to do with G or Cooney? They are both healthy.

It's been mentioned by several people that Chino is an excellent student. So he does help us with our APR, which is certainly worth something. I hope BJ and Buss finish out the semester in good standing academically.

If Coleman is healthy enough I would hope for his sake the staff limits his minutes to keep him healthy

I think those apply only to sanctions relating to post-season/bowl bans.

I think anyone who transfers needs to be in good academic standing.
