Strong Showing in Princeton for Women's Rowing

Four top-five finishes

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Syracuse women's rowing team continued its fall season on Sunday at the Princeton Chase. Syracuse had a successful showing in New Jersey, recording five top-five finishes in the team's second competition of 2014-15.

"I feel really good about how the team performed," head coach Justin Moore said. "I feel like that was a real strong row for the varsity eight, given the fact that we basically have been rowing small boats the entire fall. There is room for us to grow. What the women did was get on the water and demonstrated their aggressiveness."

The varsity eight "A" boat finished in third place, clocking in at 14:43.211. Syracuse finished in third behind the Brown "A" boat and Virginia's "A" boat. The SU "A" boat was coxed by senior Katherine Isaza and was comprised of sophomore Emily Carey (stroke), junior Deirdre Fitzpatrick (7), senior Georgia Hamilton (6), junior Kari Tomeny (5), freshman Julia Vander Hoeven (4), senior Chelsea Frawley (3), senior Caroline Habjan (2), and senior Amy Ludovici (bow).

"That's also a really good day to be keeping company and on the other side of Princeton on their home course," Moore commented of the varsity eight "A" boat. "It's always an accomplishment."

Syracuse entered two other boats in the women's varsity eight competition. The "B" boat placed 22nd, covering the three-mile course in 15:59.125, while the "C" boat finished in 16.19.950, which was good enough for 29th place.

In the novice eight, Syracuse finished as runner-up behind host Princeton. The boat completed the course in 16.12.765. Sydney Rodriguez served as the boat's coxswain, while the rest of the boat was made up of Sarah Konishesky (7), Christina Tobias (6), Vander Hoeven (5), Carolina Ratcliffe (4), Haley Jones (2), and Olivia Humphrey (bow).

Syracuse sent out four boats for the women's varsity four, placing three in the top five of the competition. The "A" boat finished as runner-up, coming in at 16:57.980. The "C" boat placed third, finishing in 17:07.395, while the "B" boat finished in fifth place with a time of 17:09.542.

The Syracuse women's rowing team will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Small Boats Challenge in Mercer, N.J.
