SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's rowing team ranks No. 17 in the nation in the Preseason Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA)/USRowing Coaches Poll – presented by Pocock Racing Shells. It marks the team's highest appearance in the preseason poll since the 2004 season.
Syracuse was one of four teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference to be ranked in the top 20 of the preseason poll. Virginia opens the season at No. 2 in the country, Notre Dame holds the No. 12 position, and Louisville ranks one spot behind the Orange. Clemson and Duke also are receiving votes in the preseason rankings.
The team will be challenged week in and week out this year. Syracuse is slated to face 11 of the 20 teams currently ranked in the top 20 of the CRCA/US Rowing Coaches Poll. The Orange will race against defending national champion Ohio State on April 25 in Columbus, Ohio. The Buckeyes open the 2015 season ranked No. 1 nationally.
Last season, Syracuse finished in third place at its first ACC Rowing Championships. The Orange placed third in the varsity eight grand final, the championships' main event. Georgia Hamilton was named All-ACC First Team and returns for her senior season in 2015.
Syracuse opens its season against Boston University, Clemson, and Duke on Saturday morning. Racing will occur on Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C.
