Cornell defended its titles from a season ago, sweeping the competition. "A tough day for us on Onondaga Lake," head coach Dave Reischman said. "Cornell and Navy are really strong programs. They did a great job today, so hats off to them. We didn't feel in the varsity eight quite as clean in our execution as last week. We didn't settle down and move the boat like we were capable of." Cornell won the varsity eight competition, edging out Navy's top boat by less than a second. Syracuse covered the course in 5:49, 11 seconds behind the Big Red. With the victory in the varsity eight, Cornell retained the Goes Trophy for the 23rd time. The Orange's best showing came in the second varsity race, where the crew finished in second place at 5:51.5 Cornell won the race with a time of 5:47. The Big Red would go on to win the third and fourth varsity races and Navy would take home runner-up finishes in those events. Following the trophy presentations, the men's rowing program dedicated two boats, honoring Rob and Sue Edson. Rob worked for Syracuse Athletics for 21 years before becoming the athletic director at Onondaga Community College in 2011. In his time at Syracuse, he supervised the men's soccer, men's rowing, and women's rowing programs. Rob passed away unexpectedly at the age of 45 in September 2013. Sue, Rob's wife, has worked for Syracuse Athletics since 1990 in its athletic communications office. She has received multiple recognitions for excellence in her field, including an induction into the College Sports Information Directors of America Hall of Fame in 2012. Sue and Rob have two children, Thomas and Tracey. "Everything Rob has meant to the program over the years, not just during my tenure but before," commented Reischman. "Rob was a great sport administrator. He would be at every race. He got to know the student-athletes. He is just one of those guys in athletics that means the world to everyone he comes into contact with. I think what he meant to the program and the support he gave us was fantastic." The Orange will return to waters next weekend when it races No. 8 Boston University and No. 18 Columbia for the Conlan Cup on the Charles River in Boston, Mass. Syracuse is looking to win its first Conlan Cup since the spring of 2012.
