Bethlehem owes its renaissance to 2 changes - legalization of casinos/gambling by the PA governor and my alma mater gentrifying many of the blighted neighborhoods up to the river in South Bethlehem.

They turned the old steel mill into a Sands Casino but aside from historical Bethlehem (similar to nice neighborhoods in the city of Syracuse) that area hasn't improved all that much.

Roch & Buff have educational institutions with far less adversarial relationships to local govt than Cuse - that's my humble opinion as to why they've jumped on the Meds & Eds train faster than Syracuse.

Roch has more local universities than Cuse and Buffalo has a magnet for state funding in the form of UB. Syverud sounds like he wants to fast track SU to bringing more Meds & Ed stuff to Syracuse. That'll do exponentially more than TWO's corridor BS.
