Got to step up and stop the run. We need help at LB and I guess at SS. Just can't allow the kind of run game that we saw today and during the 4th quarter last week.

And we need WRs who can create some separation and catch the ball cleanly.

This staff has recruited 10 linebackers over three cycles and two out of the three starting backers should not be on the field. I think Ward takes a liking to a kid and no matter what they do, mostly bad, they still play. Same on offense with some of the skill players. This staff is very weird regarding playing time and what earns it. I refuse to believe that the starting linebackers are the best three on that team. If they are, they waisted 10 other scholorships.

Backup linebacker syndrome. They simply haven’t been able to bring in the talent. And it’s scary and depressing all the same.

If SU had the LB's wouldn't that push Whitner to SS? Regarding LB's of size is it possible that they keep moving the bigger ones to DE? Seems like SU is always robbing Peter to pay Paul.

The LB are undersized and play out of position a lot. They’re slow to read the run, and don’t step up into a gap to stop it once they recognize it. For two weeks now I’ve watched them sit back 4 yards off the line after the handoff. Two of them then get blocked, and the one that gets isolated lets a RB carry him for 3-4 yards before someone helps on the tackle.

I watched most of the ND-VT game, and both teams LB specifically. The difference is so glaring. The reads were so much much faster, and as soon as the ball was handed off the gap was filled at or near the LOS. Not catching the RB after they’ve gained 3-4 yards and a head of steam.

Our DL hasn’t really helped much against the run either. Our ends are pass rushing every down. I can’t count how many times yesterday we had a DE seven yards in the backfield on a running play. The offensive tackles weren’t even following through on blocks because the ends were taking themselves out of the play.

It’s like our defense doesn’t know that running the ball is legal.

Part of the idea behind the Baylor system is that you scheme guys open and don’t need a bunch of 4 star recruits. In the college game there are a lot of blown coverages. Yet it seems like we rarely are the beneficiary of one. The system should be causing more than average not less.

I think that may be true, but Baylor didn’t really start winning until they recruited a bunch of studs. Bowling green and eastern Illinois won with better talent than their foes. The narrative that was propogated by some here that you could run out Millhouse, ottointhegrotto, Cusian and a fat pirate at qb and win was always patently absurd.

FWIW I think our wideouts are good enough to beat Pitt and are adequate against our schedule. N Johnson and Harris are future game breakers.

We had WRs open yesterday ED just couldn't hit them. Seemed like he was trying to hit the hot dog guy in the stands on most plays. He did not look right to me all game.

But that’s the problem for SU fans. We have been waiting on “the future” for 20 years. We are just desperate for one seasons success. Most people feel the way they do because they thought we had a chance to be that right now and losing to Pitt makes people lose hope in that. That’s why this always happens. We are teased and feel like we can see future greatness and have seen that fail to happen before. We want the future to just be here now

I understand the sentiment and frustration, but Why so entitled? This process doesn’t take place in a vacuum. Everyone wants to win (except maybe Rutgers).

Edit: god damn it I type d Rutgers and now I’m seeing Rutgers ribbon ads. Take caution.

Fat Pirate was accurate and didn’t want to run. Was throwing to better WRs who both could beat single coverage

I just don't see it as a system problem - at least at LB.

We are just not physically strong enough to fight off blocks and we don't plug holes as a result.

parris and zaire both got nfl contracts.

You could argue they do have the LBs though. They just haven’t been given the chance.

I think the staff placed a premium on lbs who would cover. And now we are getting steamrolled. I would prefer to see something like a traditional 4-3 with Armstrong at the will, Guthrie at the Sam, and someone who can run stop at the mike. Or move Guthrie to will and put in Williams at mike and Cullen or Wallace at Sam. Something different. Otherwise we are just doing insanity.

And I would like to see our tackling improve and to stop going for the strip every gd play
