1st play that stood out , we start 2nd quarter go deep and its under thrown, but CCST rushed 3 guys and center/RG/RT all messed up and 1 got thru to hit Dungey. Dungey ran a times this quarter and not really because of good pressure. but the oline handed guys off and they didnt handle that well. that needs to be cleaned up against better dlines.

1) 7 in box, 4 yd gain good push
2) 6 in box, no gain. unblocked MLB. RG didnt hold block and allowed end to slide down.
3) 8 in box, no gain unblocked MLB
4) 7 in box, dungey run for 10
5) 6 in box, this time LG runs pull for screen but we hand off inside so unblocked MLB again.
6) 6 in box, pull 2 guys right but RB runs up the middle. big holes left and right with vision.
7) 7 in box, 2 pull left and rb runs up the middle, big hole missed

so all in all while it was a game.

we ran power stuff for 2-3 yds most of the time
we pulled multiple times and missed holes
we left guys unblocked a few times
we only missed a couple blocks
we had several plays that by design ? we blocked air very well.

I dont think we will be more than just an avg running team this year. the oline will be serviceable most of the time but the RB need to hit the holes that are there better. what happens against better dlines will decide the season.

Great analysis.

But I think you might be overstating the severity of needing a run game to decide the season. I don't think FSU/Clemson/LSU are in reach no matter what ( would love to wrong, but like under 10% chance of win). NC State is right there - but have a weaker secondary. I think Pitt, BC, Wake are so flawed we won't need a traditional running game. Our passing game is lethal enough to pull off a 6 win season, IMO.

I think some of the mistakes we saw last week can be fixed. some were confusion, some were mental. there were few physical mistakes, but against lesser talent. Had the rb not missed the holes and run for another 50 yds we probably make less of a big deal about it.. We also dont want Dungey running but that was mostly on him and not real pressure, 2-3 designed runs the others were more him taking off too early.

You can analyze the unsuccessful plays and find a mistake -- maybe these can be fixed.

Another way to think about this -- the relattive lack of successful running plays. Plays where the OL gets a definite push, on one side of the line or the other. Where at least some of the OL is winning the one on one physical battle. Plays where there is a good running lane. Plays where the RB makes an individual move, a good cut, a broken tackle leading to extra yards.

Several plays no one got beat but the Dline ran away from them and down the line to make the play.. Again its about line Discipline and until you see it in a game its hard to teach such a young line how to work together.
