And who said scheduling mistake? I've explicitly said that it was a good move multiple times on this very thread. It's an easy win that's a nice nod to recruits.

And if it's naive to call SU vs RU a non-rivalry game, why has there been zero incremental pomp and circumstance attached to any past SU vs RU game? The school doesn't make any special shirts (PSU), coaches don't publicly circle the game (BC), there is no trophy (WVU), and there aren't any widely-accepted special sayings, chants, or traditions (Colgate). There isn't even a boost in attendance.

Your post even seems to say it's not a rivalry game when you write: "Not a rivalry? Fine. Whatever."

But to answer your above questions, yes, USC recruits heavily out of SoCal, and yes, SDSU would love to stop USC from recruiting highly talented local recruits, so some of those recruits would come to them.

I assume the Pete Carrol leaving USC comment was an analogy to Coach P leaving SU.  If so, the GRob era (while immediately followed Coach P leaving) is over. Move on.
