Can someone please explain what rutgers' campus situation is.

I know there are multiple campuses and it's always felt like a giant commuter school to me. It seems like they could never approach the traditional college campus enviornment the Hill provides but I've never set foot or seen a rutgers campus so maybe I'm way off base...?
 
Their campus housing is not idyllic.

I went to graduate school there in 79 to 81. At that time it had three campuses, main old campus downtown New Brunswick (sketchy), Cook College (Ag School) where I went (really sketchy) and Piscataway, new campus where the stadium and field house is located. If I remember correctly, it is the combination of 3 or 4 private colleges into an State University. Spread all over the place and kind of in an armpit area. Nothing compared to the Hill. It was like a two year prison sentence. I punched my ticket and fled to Florida.

Funny story: I tutored Rutgers freshman football player in biology when I was there for extra money. They gave me a bunch of ticket to the Rutgers/Syracuse game at the dome. I took my family and friends, we all wore orange and sat in the middle of the Rutgers section and cheered for the Orange. Never got tickets again.

Ralph James - the original Dingle Man. When he rang that bell there was a mad dash down the stairwell of the dorm to be first in line. Wish I had a dollar for every Jaw Breaker I scarfed down.
 
i was at grad school there in 1975-77 -- the main campus was a ---that said j
&j poured a lot of money into the city and it is really nice. the main campus is still a work in progress. they have very good tailgating at piscataway. i think su is more attractive as it is much smaller--ru takes on look of a MUCH LARGER university,big 10 to be precise, and has the money to back it as well as the med school and research facilities to enhance its growth. su has none of the above. we mocked their football, to our my dismay, and will mock hoops to my dismay. we have always underestimated them in terms of growth --did we not learn from the past??? if not, please do.

Yes, Ralph James! Those Cheese Jaws were the best. On those winter mid nights... they were incredibly good.

Their AD already said not to expect any money to be put into the RAC or the hoops program in the next decade, so I say, mock away.

this sounds like the old football posts that ru would never have influence. please do not repeat history. pay attention to the political push in the legislature (read nj.com)for the whats going on with hoops push for facilities. we did not pay attention when football was evolving, pay attention now--when we are most vulnerable, and they have b1G STATUS
