We had 8 two star kids last cycle, out of 25 kids.

We already have 6 two star kids this cycle out of 11 and Evans/Guidice are unrated. You can believe they’ll be 2*, 5.4 rated when they’re finally evaluated (tongue in cheek). That’ll be 8 two star out of 11.

What does it mean? It means rvls doesn’t like our class that everyone here is giddy about. Wont do a lot for perception when the class finishes in the 60s again.

who cares? It only matters if they are right. And we won't know that for a long time. The reason people are giddy is that these are not commits in January when we are desperate. These are kids the coaches wanted. Maybe they are wrong. I asked that question just the other day. But I will take the class being complete on July 1 if that were to happen. And I like tos that has 5 3 star.

doesnt it really mean that they have not actually reviewed most of the kids we get?

this is the age old argument...

round and round we go.

the only fact is that teams with higher ranked classes typically do better. There will be outliers , there will be diamonds in the rough. But if we continue to not catch a big fish - we will continue to sit in purgatory.

One other reason why I like the class so far is because we're filling in positions of need from good recruiting areas for us. It was clear coming in that we need OLs and RBs, and we're getting OLs and RBs from Florida/the Northeast/our newly found goldmine in Illinois.

I would say no on the 2 star 5.4 rating guys with little if any activity on their profiles.

We'll know how good this class is come November-February when we see how hard we have to fight to keep our recruits from getting poached by bigger schools.

I agree...this class needs 4 or 5 Four Star or better kids to break out of the cycle of almost all 2/3 star classes. Obviously several of our 2-3 star kids have played up to 4 Star or even 5 Star levels...but the rich get richer and many kids want to play where other 4/5 star kids are at (The old Birds of the Same Feather Flock Together Proverb).

I agree that it can feel like we're stuck. But purgatory makes it sound wholly negative, when it seems like we finish higher than our recruiting rankings consistently. That's making a good thing out of average.

I'm still giving this coaching staff a pass until the recruits they've added are seniors.

That has always been my understanding "NR" stands for "Not Ranked", which is not the same as "Un-ranked".

Well it would be nice if people would judge the quality of the class when the class is actually properly evaluated after these kids play their senior seasons. At least half of our class hasn't been properly evaluated by Scout or Rivals. And it seems like every recruit is a 3 star at 247 so I don't really know what that means either.

I think we are doing better too...if you use comparative offers and also we are frontloading more recruits early in the process. Our guys seem to have a good eye for talent so many of these two star kids are really solid 3 star kids...probably a few 4 star kids to boot among them also.

When we're getting kids with offers from MSU, Mizzou, Wisconsin, Miami, Maryland etc. I don't worry.
This is my thought too. I pay more attention to who we're beating out for these kids than I do ratings. If you changed our name from Syracuse to Notre Dame, all these 2 star kids would be 3 stars and all our 3 star kids would be 4 stars.

That being said, we need to start getting some of the 4/5 star kids because generally, yea they're better, and also for recognition.

my apologies if it came out negative... i was just using in terms of "average" in-between hell (grob) and heaven (late 80's and 90's).

i love HCSS

While at the same time at 2 4 7 all 11 of our commits are 3 stars, and Strickland is a 4 star.

At 2 4 7 we are #28 in the nation.

I don't know what happened at Rivalz, but they originally said Clausman was a 3 star, but their was a mix up in his position so he was skipper over. Then all a sudden he shows up as a 2 star.

I really only see 1 reach in our whole class so far. For a majority of the guys we really haven't had to beat anyone out, but I think our staff is doing amazing, and for a lot of these guys the offers will start to pour in.

I don't see how you can say who cares? Program perception means a whole lot to the kids we are recruiting. These kids love checking out what they're rated, and who's class is rated high. Good players attract other good players, even if they are perceived to be good players because of the people doing the ratings. Unfortunately the ratings matter a great deal imo.

Yeah I don't know what to make out of 247. We're at 28, Rutgers is at 51 (lol), their class is higher on Scout and both classes are pretty similar on Rivals. So who knows at this point.

Just wait. by mid August some of these guys will have exploded and we'll have more Davis like threads.

My 2 cents. Here is where I depart from HCDM recruiting in favor of HCSS recruiting. Under HCDM (or even HCGR), we never had 11 recruits by mid June. During those years, we absolutely knew because summer camps were already over & even senior seasons, most 2 stars kids were really 2 star kids. I do give credit to HCDMs ability to develop those kids into high performers and team players.

By getting these kids early, we are really in new territory with staff and their ability to recognize talent before the final ratings come out on these kids. We are in so much better position to really kick a$$ in recruiting this year - time will tell but I for one give HCSSs staff a thumbs up!

It really is ridiculous how big of a gap it is. Personally I tend to agree a lot more with the 2 4 7 ratings. Sure it's easy to say because it's the better graded class, but I would have graded our guys the exact same way. I would have pegged Byrne, Spence, and Robinson as our lowest commits, and that matches up to what 2 4 7 has. You could say they had Perkins graded a little high, but they gave a solid breakdown to support it at least.

As for Skout and Rivalz there is no way Sam Clausman is only a 2 star. Hell Skout has John Phillips as a 3 star.

I think what it comes down to is that Rivalz and Skout factor camp performances into their ratings, while 2 4 7 says they don't really factor that into the grades. Looking at our commits there aren't a lot of camp kids, which makes sense the 2 4 7 rating is higher. For example I know for a fact Perkins and Fredericks were supposed to attend a Rivalz camp right after they committed, but never showed. No surprise they are 2 stars at Rivalz.
