Class of 2016 S James Pierre (Fl) Did not qualify / to FAU

Well at least this may give a certain paper an article to write about now.

Seems strange that Pierre didn't at least find a prep school or a JUCO that we know of. He was a pretty well thought of recruit.

We have seen many not make it to SU out of high school due to these types of issues, but very few have we not heard where they planned on going next. Very weird.

Still has Syracuse on his twitter handle.

After reviewing his twitter, I think it's pretty clear he's not on campus. The directory thing has got to be an error. He still actively posts on twitter and over the past 2 months, not one mention of Syracuse sports, retweet, not one mention of school, class, etc. I don't know where he is but it's not on campus and enrolled.

There's just no way.

gotcha

always wondered how he got eligible and if he was why we didn't stay on him.

Every school has their own standards and as Money points out, this is shady Lane we are talking about

Lane can't get a kid into school who isn't NCAA eligible.

Until we get out of the gutter our standards should be to admit kids who are NCAA eligible. It’s up to the school/educators to then educate them. If that means tutors then that’s what you do.

how he got eligible? he went to FAU, not that hard to get anyone eligible there.

come on guys. The NCAA requires board scores or a sliding scale of GPA and core courses. It's difficult to beat the NCAA clearinghouse.

Syracuse eligible isn't FAU eligible.

True. There are minimal threshold requirements that the HS player must meet to qualify for NCAA eligibility.

Pierre was well below the line due to his academic performance his first two years of high school. He made a big push the final two years to get above the line, and was only able to clear those minimum thresholds by a hair after completing an extensive summer workload of courses, which included several online courses.

It is possible that Syracuse didn't admit him despite [ostensibly] being above the minimum thresholds for NCAA eligibility because there were questions about the courseload he took to get his head above water. Or they might have felt that some of the classes used to fulfill core course requirements wouldn't pass muster in the NCAA clearinghouse. Or they might have not admitted him for other, undisclosed reasons.

But it IS possible to meet minimum academic thresholds for NCAA eligibility and not be admitted to SU.
