Worked in Charlotte after covering SU hoops for a short while before Mike Waters. He was one in an unending line of amazing journalists out of Newhouse.

That was a hell of an unofficial obit for Rick.

I still remember his work while in Syracuse. I think he wrote for the DO while I was a student and I definitely remember his work for the Syracuse newspapers. Yes, he was really talented even then.

Glad he found a good home in Charlotte. NC gave us a great sportswriter and we gave them one too.

RIP Rick. Condolences to his family and friends.

Rick was a good friend for many years before we drifted. I am very saddened by this news. RIP.

Loved reading his stuff as a teen in the local papers. He covered college sports and Syracuse Chiefs if I recall. Pretty sure he was covering hoops in 87...maybe he left before then.

Also noted that he joined the Observer in 1987.
