Sad story about old ABA players

"The amount of money it would take for the NBA to fund what Dropping Dimes is asking for in ABA pensions, $400 a month for each season of play, is at most $35 million, Tarter said. That amounts to one third of what the NBA donates to charity each year from the player fines the league takes in, he said."

Where are people like LeBron James, they need to step up for the people who laid the foundation for them? That's one of the reasons I don't watch the NBA, self intitled players.

Lebron has done more for disadvantaged children than maybe any high profile athlete ever. This is the NBA’s responsibility, not his.
There's room for both sides to take responsibility. There's a player's union and they could make it part of the collective bargaining process to ensure those guys get what they deserve. Given that it's significantly less than one max deal, they wouldn't have to give up much.

Finally - but too little, too late for many of them.
MLB had the same issue with Pre-WW2 ballplayers. By the time they voted to give them any money unfortunately most of them had passed away. It still bothers me how Selig and friends lined their pockets with gold bullion during the steroid era and how hypocritical they were towards the players. It looks like the PGA might the next group to get really roasted on how little of the money is shared by the ones actually generating the money.

If the NBA paid 50 years of back pension pay in a lump sum to make it right, it would total 18% of one years revenue. To just start paying the pensions would be 1/3 of 1% of their revenue annually.

The NBA just decided to say "f(orget) these guys" and let them die poor.
