Oakland Elite 11: Garrett Anderson Highlights
Justin Harper and Taj Smith also have the potential to upgrade the receiving corps. The 6-foot-4, 213-pound Harper, a most inviting target, had been deployed primarily at wide receiver until being moved inside on Thursday. Smith, whose presence at training camp has not devoured as much newsprint as Moss or Jarrett, has quietly but undeniably made a positive impression by running geometric pass patterns, demonstrating sure hands, and absorbing every detail that is raised in meetings. Smith's comprehension of the offence, even at this early juncture, makes him a comfortable fit inside or outside.
"Harper obviously presents a big body and he has shown a good understanding of zone coverage and finding holes in the middle of it,'' offensive co-ordinator Bob Dyce said. "(Smith) has come in and shown himself to be a true professional.''
Moss (who is 28), Harper (27) and Smith (28) are all at comparable stages of their careers after playing in the NFL with the New York Giants, Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts, respectively.
