I agree with Jerry Hinnen's article.

This is not BCS 2.0.

The teams that do not play in the five conferences now have a chance to play for the NC.

The fact is that it now depends on the teams' play on the field.

So, if Boise State goes undefeated in 2014 it has very good chance of being one of the four play-off teams.

If Cincy goes undefeated or if Houston goes undefeated they will have a chance to go.

Look, it wasn't too long ago that TCU was a rotten football program. Perception in the college game changes with better play on the field.

If the remaining conferences produce high quality football, they will get their chance at the NC or perhaps at a bowl tie-in.

It shall be decided on the field.

I think you're right in theory, but it remains to be seen if a 12-0 or 11-1 team from the Big East will jump over 11-1 or even 10-2 teams from the power conferences. It really requires the Big East teams to schedule better OOC, at least in the near future and hope the overall perception of the Conference changes.

I think that's right.

The opportunity is there - the other conferences have a challenge, but it can be done.

Don't completely agree. It only helps a little because the playoff is 4 teams instead of 2. Opening it up to 4 more helps teams like SEC#2 not the BE winner nor the Indies except ND.

Also, without the AQ, the BE has a lesser chance of getting into one of the 6 access bowls. Now instead of being a given, the BE winner has to be better on the field, play a tougher OOC schedule, and worst if all, be perceived as one of the top 12 teams. The ACC has a guaranteed path to the 6 access bowls but even they will really struggle to be perceived as top 4, at least for now. Only the 2 semis and NC will get the love. Everyone else, even the other 3 access bowls are playing in the NIT.

As I said, it must be decided on the field.

The opportunity is there - the other conferences have a chance - they must succeed on the field.

They had to succeed on the field before too. 4 vs 2 is all now. Be top 4 instead of top 2 and you're in. Go back and look how many times, and when, a BE team was top 4. Check the ACC too. Easier said than done. But every team has a chance at the NC. Its just that the perception better be there too with the committee.
