I think that in college it's hard to work on your shot, vs the pros where you could improve things. You almost can't afford to lay bricks in college because you are working on your shot. But coaches could have worked on him freshmen year to change his fade away shot... You could just tell it was not a good thing to do, sure does look great for TV.
