“Even though we beat them 44-19 the first time, this win’s not guaranteed,” said wide receiver Alvin Cornelius. “We still have to come into this game with the mentality that we have to play hard.” So to make sure Cornelius would get his hands on the ball enough, the Pirates installed an option package with Cornelius taking snaps in the shotgun. “That week we had a lot of stuff thrown at us,” said Cornelius. “All different types of formations. We came out during the game and executed the formations well.” Campus Magnet was the first team to see the new-look Pirates. Cornelius ran for one touchdown, threw for another and had two interceptions as Tottenville stretched a 10-point halftime lead to 37-13 by the end of the third quarter.
