Quarterback Brandon DiGirolamo has done a solid job running the offense in place of injured starter Brandon Barnes. In the wake of Barnes’ injury, receiver Alvin Cornelius has become a jack-of-all-trades as a receiver, rusher and passer. He’s also a terrific blocker.

Rookie learning in spotlight
As for Murray, it's clear the Cowboys just run the ball better with a true fullback. We really don't know the full extent of Tony Fiammetta's injury or illness or injury/illness. Whatever it is, the Cowboys need either him to get better, or just someone else in there who can lead block. No offense to John Phillips, but he's not a fullback. He's 6-5, 260 pounds. That's not a fullback body and the Cowboys are just getting by with that position

Chargers HC Norv Turner doesn't say much on Ryan Mathews. "Hopefully he'll be alright. If he's not, Mike Tolbert and Curtis Brinkley will take the load."

The biggest reason for Michigan’s turnaround this season under first-year Coach Brady Hoke has been its defense, which was something of a tragicomedy under former coach Rich Rodriguez and defensive coordinator Greg Robinson. After allowing 35.2 points per game last season, the Wolverines are sixth nationally in that category this season (15.6 points per game).
“I think that players understand that after a while that my job is to tackle the football,” defensive coordinator Greg Mattison told the Detroit Free Press this week.
So there you have it: Because they finally were reminded that tackling is at least somewhat crucial to winning football games, the Wolverines have been pretty stout.
