Using Kansas as an example is laughable.   I saw there game against South Dakota the place was empty if they had 20K there it would be a miracle. 
 
The larger fan base of the mid 80's and early 90's is a quarter of what it once was.  Many of those fans have either retired and moved away, are to old physically to make the trip or have passed on.  With the awful play the last 15 years were not replacing them 1 for 1 but more like 1 for 4. 
 
Again people dont realize how much of a non-factor attending games has become for a lot of locals and thats not just football its all games at the dome.  SU vs Cornell bball was lucky to have 10K last year.  Football is clearly in a much worse overall spot but the point remains.
