Is it really a lock that UK gets the overall #1?

I think a very credible argument could be made that this team would be undefeated at that point.

Would an undefeated SU really be considered the 2nd best team?

Well, we wouldn't be undefeated since we, you know, aren't. I know we didn't have Melo and all that, but it is what it is, so we should probably stop saying "woulda coulda shoulda" and move on from that.

But I would have to think if Kentucky gets bounced early and we win the BET, we would almost HAVE to jump them for the top overall seed. The fact is, though...does it really matter?

The only way we pass them is if they lose and we win out.

doesn't really matter. all we want is the #1 seed in the east and that's pretty much a done deal.

Doesn't the committee have a history of taking injuries into consideration?

While you say that, you know, we aren't undefeated. The truth is that team that takes the court in the NCAA tourney is, you know, undefeated.

Kentucky may have to lose for us to pass them, but I think there is an argument to be made that it could go our way.

The difference between overall #1 seed and the 2nd #1 seed is basically pointless. SU and UK are going to be in completely opposite sides of the bracket, that's all that it really means.

You're splitting hairs if you think there's a big difference between getting the 4th #1 seed in the Final Four, vs getting the 3rd #1 seed. I also don't think there is a measurable difference between the 2 seeds that UK and SU are going to end up with in their regions (as long as Mizzou isn't our 2 seed).

We both win our tourney's they are 1 we are 2.
They win, we don't, they are 1 we are 2.
We both don't win, they are 1 we are 2.
We win, they don't, it will be a tough call but we will have a shot at 1 with them at 2. Since the SEC is weak, I'll guess we do get the 1 overall.

Well, we are #1 in the rpi. I think they look long and hard at it but give it to Kentucky because no one would question it. But if they gave it to us...

Echo what others have said. Being #1 or #2 is what matters most (and being #1 in the East) so that we will only face UK if we both make the finals. Other than that, it really matters very little.

I have to assume it's true since you and others say so - but just to confirm - is it an absolute that the first and second seeded #1s would not meet until the final? Anyone know if/when the last time the top two seeds met for the NC?

guess i fall into i dont care status...as long as Duke is #2 in our pod I believe that is the easiest 2 to beat...insofar as a #1 seed 1 seed...nice, but not priceless

one other note is that with syracuse and marquette being 1/2 in the BE and ranked in the top 10 overall there's no way we should possibly see them ncaat this year until the elite 8 at the earliest.

I agree w/ those saying it means very little but since you asked...
Lunardi moved them ahead of us without us losing. I don't know why he couldn't do the same to UK on the basis of us winning a more difficult tournament. Although G'town & Marquette losing probably hurt the chances of that happening.

If we win and kentucky loses we're a lock for the #1 overall seed. We're pretty much neck and neck right now, kentucky will most likely get it if we both win out just cuz the general consensus is they are the best team and they beat kansas and unc, but its definitely close. If the committee takes into consideration that we're undefeated at full strength (which i think they should), we still might be able to get it.

I think if both teams hold serve, so to speak, UK will be the #1 overall seed. Lunardi basically said something, which I agree with, that regardless of who is actually better, UK has got that mantle in the national media, and I think probably in the eyes of the committee as well.

And as people above me have pointed out, the difference is pretty much meaningless.
