How many times have we seen teams befuddled for parts of if not the entirety of some of our NCAAT games?

At some points you could see the zone messed with WVU today. With SDST it was obvious the whole game. But what other NCAA games? I remember Hollice Price being lost in Albany..I was very confident the.entire second half in the Indiana sweet 16 game. Strangle hold the whole game. What other games was it clear we locked down on an opponent in the dance?

New Mexico?

Princeton at their own game?

Marquette 2013 Elite Eight after we did the same to Indiana.

That 2013 team, statistically had the best defense of any team that ever played in the first four rounds of the tournament in a couple different measures. I wish I could find the actual stats and records, but have lost it. I remember it vividly from the time though. Go back and watch some of the IU or Marq games. The defense was Captain Insano levels. I saw some sparks of it against WVU the other day, but nothing like 2013.

By the way, is it just me or did we not really trap most of this year, but in the tourney we have started trapping again? I could be imagining it, but I recall throughout this year seeing us NOT trap the corners, but we definitely did against WVU. If I am right, it could be an indication that JB didn't think the zone was developed enough previously to take the risk on those traps, but now he does. In 2013, the traps were so suffocating. I coined the term "meat blanket" to explain it to my insouciant spouse.

You’re not crazy, I noticed it more, too. I think the guys have to have the understanding and confidence in order to go after the traps. They are finally at the point where they recognize the power of the zone.

We actually did trap quite a bit but the rotations and cutting angles by the other defenders has been much much better in the tourney.
