Syracuse running back Sean Tucker is one-of-82 preseason candidates for the Doak Walker Award, presented annually to the nation's top running back.

Tucker is coming off one of the most productive rookie campaigns by a Syracuse running back ever. He ran for 626 yards in nine games, the third-highest total by an Orange freshman ever. His 69.6 yards per game was second to only Syracuse all-time leading rusher Joe Morris.

The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name 10 semifinalists in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will be announced in November. The committee will cast a second vote in December to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives.

The recipient of the 2021 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards.

The award is named for SMU's three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. It is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.

He’s going to be hungry this Fall with an appetite for chewing up defenses

One of the few bright spots last year. Health will be the biggest concern as his style is a downhill, crashing style

dude is having a helluva season. of course being one of only two weapons helps the numbers. wish we had a passing game to open up some lanes for him. he's a special talent that DC'S will continue to stack the box and stop. maybe we can split him out and toss him a few short passes. if nothing else it helps build his draft tape.

Walker: 1498 yds (MSU 9-2)
Tucker: 1467 (Syracuse 5-6)
Badie: 1385 (Mizzou 6-5)
Hall: 1222 (Iowa St 6-5)

I am not pleased with their selections.

Yeah, you can’t even say it’s because Badie, Hall are playing on better teams. Better obviously but the other two picked aren’t on 1-2 loss teams. I would get that even if I didn’t agree.

It's either an age thing (1 senior, 2 juniors), or a number of touchdowns thing, or bowl eligibility after 11 games.

Shrader's rushing TDs apparently punish Tucker, who's only a couple behind them anyway.

What a joke. And now we'll get 500 more transfer portal speculation posts.

Hall over Tucker makes no sense. The team record is close and his numbers aren't. Tucker has almost as many rushing yards as Hall has scrimmage yards and Tucker's ypc is way better. Just stupid.

None of them have another runner who has done anything. Garrett has almost 800 yards .

I bet they have passing games that prevent teams from stacking the box too.
