SEC Teams Don't Really Pack Their Stadiums??? Say It Isn't So...

Memo to TGD:
Stadium attendance is dropping all over in both college and NFL, particularly with the student bodies. Time to focus on the students.
  1. Students should get in free with Student ID to EVERY GAME. The certainly pay SU enough every year and they deserve that much.
  2. Provide SUPERIOR Wi-Fi or they will never come in the numbers you want.
Adapt or you will wind up with old folks like us and nobody else!

What I found interesting is that nobody mentioned the COST of attendance as the reason why attendance was down... they mentioned lack of quality opponents, poor cell phone service, no beer, and better viewing experience on TV as the primary reasons.

One caveat... I realize that in the articles they were mostly talking to college students (some of which probably get "free" entry to the game) and not the average fan on the street who has to pay for their tickets...

Given all of our "what's wrong with Syracuse fans" attendance threads, I thought that this article from Yahoo Sports that I read this morning might be of interest...

Here is the Wall Street Journal article that it was referencing...

For students it matters. But for others SU college football is a big bargain. When I told my wife I was buying season tickets she asked me how much it would cost - when I told her she asked if it was per game! (She is a New Yorker.)

How much are season tickets if you don't mind me asking?

You can get seasons for $99. Not the best seats but still seasons.

Dang that's awesome. I wish my season tickets were that cheap.

Football games are a real comittment.

The usually consume an entire day or much of a day.

The games are now 3.5 to 4 hours long. Tough.

I no longer go to Eagles games - the process and the inconvenience of watching what has become a TV game are just too much.

Actually, I don't think there are many "bad seats" in the Dome. The upper decks are steep so you have a great view of the action.

My parent's have front row season tickets in the end zone, but I actually prefer to sit up higher because I think you get a better overall view of the field.

I didn't say bad. They aren't as good as some others that's all.

I have been to many many venues..and i have yet to find a stadium quite like The Dome where every single seat is a good seat for football. We are really lucky.

I shouldn't have said bad. But they are the worst seats they have to offer season tickets wise. They are not the best in other words. That's all I was trying to say.

I understand... I agree that there are better seats available, though seating preference for football games definitely varies by the person. I like the whole field view, so I prefer a seat higher up instead of at field level where it's harder to see the plays unfold most of the time.

1. Lower ticket prices for everyone (they make enough money already, especially with TV money)
2. Drop the non-majors from the schedules, only games between the ACC, SEC, Big10, Big12 and Pac (if Alabama needs to beat up on someone in August, they can play SU!)

Agreed but Bama would say we have to play in the Meadowlands if it's a H/H. I'd love true H/H for all involved.

Yup. The great part of the Dome as a fan, is that you are literally right on top of the field.

The say it ain't so part is actually pretty funny since it was about a player who illegally took money and the SEC is in the title. Freudian slip?

i remember being surprised that auburn didn't sell out our game in 2002

Went with my dad, uncle and two cousins. Had seats 10 rows up first level behind the goal post - in perfect view of the blocked FG that sent the game into a second overtime by Jeremiah Mason, who I thought was going to be a really good player for us.

Anyway, the place seemed packed but we got some really good seats fairly easily.
