The unsung hero of this Syracuse offense, which ranks seventh in the country in six on six offense, is Nicky Galasso. Galasso, the former top freshman at UNC, has more 6v6 goals than any player on the Orange, with 30. He is shooting close to 50% in settled offensive possessions and has helped make this Syracuse offense quite lethal. The offense of the Blue Jays may be every bit as formidable as Syracuse, as they rank third in six on six efficiency. The offense runs through attackman Wells Stanwick (1.32 assist/turnover ratio in 6v6) and Ryan Brown (62% G/SOG in 6v6), but they have gotten great contributions from midfielder Connor Reed in recent weeks. Reed’s assist/turnover ratio in settled offense is 2 (14 assists, seven turnovers) as he has proven to be a great threat to feed if teams elect to slide to him. If Reed is able to draw slides like he has in recent weeks, Johns Hopkins’ offense could perform every bit as well as Syracuse’s. Where Johns Hopkins may need to score is in transition. While Syracuse’s defense ranks fourth overall in adjusted defensive efficiency, they are surrendering goals on 45% of their opponents’ transition possessions. If Ryan Brown and company could score three or four goals in transition, they could have an edge. When these teams first met, Ben Williams of Syracuse was strong at the ‘X,’ winning 16 of 27 face-offs. Hunter Moreland, in particular, struggled for Hopkins, going 1/7.
