No. 8 Syracuse (11-4) Syracuse has made the NCAA Tournament 25 of the last 26 years. In the 100th year of lacrosse, Syracuse gets the eighth seed. The Orange have steadily improved during the last three weeks of the season. In my eyes, they are the fourth or fifth best team in the field, right now. The overtime loss to Cornell proved costly in the committee’s eye. A back-to-basics approach on defense and new goalie Evan Molloy have made the difference. Dylan Donahue is the orchestrator. Sergio Salcido, nearly cut at one point by coach John Desko, had a bust-out year. Shooters Tim Barber, Derek DeJoe and Nick Mariano make goalies turn and rake. Defenders Nick Mellen, Brandon Mullins, Austin Fusco and Scott Firman anchor an improved defense. Ben Williams has destroyed Albany the last two meetings. A 16-7 win over the Danes on Feb. 21 was defined by a 20-7 face-off advantage. vs. Albany (12-3) The premature America East loss to Hartford contributed to a tense weekend in New York's capital region. Yale's success on Sunday aided Albany's bid. The Great Danes have wins over Drexel, Cornell, UMass, Stony Brook, Hartford, Harvard and Yale. Losses to Syracuse, Maryland and Hartford made hosting a game improbable. Their SOS is weak. The biggest dilemma facing the Danes is that they aren't playing their best ball right now. Since the win over Yale, they nearly lost to UMBC and then got tripped up by Hartford. Goalie Blaze Riorden and goal scorers Connor Fields, Seth Oakes and Justin Reh must hit the reset button and use the tournament as renewal. Albany is ranked No. 36 in face-off win percentage, and that's a big hurdle against the Orange. They have the No. 6 scoring offense in the nation. http://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/sector-spdrs-may-madness-quint-s-selection-sunday-blog-first-round-preview-and-more/35122/1
