Here is my annual comparison of players on the SU team that recently completed its season to past players. This is based on the numbers in the SU Media Guide, (also on the SU athletic website), which date back to the 1982-83 season. The abbreviations are: m = minutes per game; p, r, a, s and b are points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks per 40 minutes of play. + = the total of those stats. Mfg, mft, to and pf are missed field goals, missed free throws, turnovers and personal fouls per 40 minutes. - = the total of those stats. NP= “Net Points”, the positives, (+) minus the negatives (-). OE = offensive efficiency, points minus mfg and mft. FG= floor game, NP – OE.

Comment: CJ is another tough match because, while you can find players who were close statistically, he has a style of play all his own. Josh Pace was similar in that he was a guy who always knew where the ball was and where the openings in the defense were. But Josh didn’t have CJ’s jump shot. I think the best match is Kris Joseph, although CJ is a smoother player with better instincts. Both had the ability to shoot from outside, drive to the basket, do some r4ebounding, play some defense. But CJ is a bit better because of his height and jump shot.

It's about time someone here mentions Wendell f*****g Alexis, heh. He was the third best player (behind Pearl and Raf) on a team that ironically gets memorialized as being as successful as Georgetown at the time.

This is a really good thread idea, but it also makes me kinda glad to be an SU fan, because there's no telling how a player's senior emergence will play out.

I love CJ, but will hold off saying he's a Top 15 (AA) player. More muscle, and a more determined handle/drive (as opposed to the addition of a right-handed one; he'll need one against perversely big NBA'ers, but I just want to see him Sherman Tank his way through defenders a la John Wallace v Georgia) before I label him a type A, as opposed to a type B+++. I would recommend individual amino acid supplements for him, until he finds the right one to high-five the Fair DNA.

Dion Waiters was born knowing someone keyed his car and kicked in the tail light.

Awesome kudos to those who keep feeding my inner stat nazi, though. I still want to cry when sports fans say they don't recall Hal McRae. RBI's uber alles. Get it done, CJ. Don't matter how.
