Let's play the hypothetical game for a second. Let's say a miracle happened and there wasn't a single injury this season. How many wins would we have right now?

We can even count the Nova win despite their field goal kicker gagging.

I'll start. I'd say 3, maybe 4, beating NCST.

We started 2-3 with Hunt.
We still lose FSU, Pitt with Hunt.
We beat Wake forest and NC state so 4-5
We have a chance against Duke and Clemson

So best case is 6-5 but honestly I think either 4-7 or 5-6. We still suck offensively but with Hunt we have a chance against Duke/Clemson. I still think the guy should be gone because I have no faith he can have a top 50 offense.

Maryland, NC State, Clemson, and Duke were all winnable games.

Sans injuries, I think we win 3 of those [Maryland, NC State, Duke].

The funny thing is anyone that expects us on any given year, even the best ones to be any better than 8-4 is probably out of their mind. Unless we completely alter our scheduling we're a 6-6, 7-5 type of team. As RF says above, we probably get to that 6-6, 5-7 level this year with a healthier more fortunate team/schedule. I agree though with others that have said their faith in SS to out coach someone is waning big time. I just can't think of one game in 20 + that he's coached where I felt our staff out managed our competition. We've won games we have had equal or better talent. When that talents been hurt or outclassed, we've lost, sometimes very big.

Case in point was Georgia Tech last year. No way were we 56 points worse than they were. Our coaches got manhandled. Not sure how much game planning Jimbo and Dabo even did for our games the last two years. Talent level alone and without the fear of being Marrone'd we were dead before we showed up.

I would say we could have beaten clemson if we capitalized on turnovers...

but then I realize the offense was healthy (minus broyld) for ND. Yeah, maybe we go 5-6 with a healthy roster.

Does Clemson have Stoudt playing in this scenario? If so, I think SU would be looking at 5 wins right now (NC State and Clemson) with a toss-up game at BC for a bowl bid.

In this fanciful scenario do our opponents have no injuries as well?

Because there are two teams on the field.

Yeah if Stoudt plays we have a 60% chance of winning. If not, definite loss regardless of our injury situation.

Are you saying 3 MORE, or 3 total?

Clemson, NC State, Duke, and Pitt could were all games we were in with these injuries. I think a healthier team would have won those games.

Does Clemson get Deshaun Watson, Adam Choice, and the rest of their injured players?

Do the other teams get their injured players back?

Ya but if Maryland had their top 4 LB's for that game do we rush for 400 yards? Look how good they have been recently against the rush.

If Clemson had Deshaun Watson we go down by at least 3 td's. Stoudt has been an utter disaster.

Yes, that is my point. All things equal, how many wins do we have.

I'll give us the NCST game, and say we have 4 wins.

If we go back to last year, and make all things equal i'd say we would have finished with 3 wins.

We lose Maryland, Wake, and BC.

That was one of the things I thought of, too--is it just us that would be 100% healthy? Or would that same rule apply? I was thinking of Clemson specifically, but other teams have had key players out [Louisiville's experienced QB / their top WR, Clemson's frosh QB who is way better than Stoudt, etc.]

No.

How so? Maryland was playing with a LB at quarterback.

Wake was moving the ball all over until Campanello guy broke his collarbone.

We barley won BC, and we knocked out their Heisman contender in the 1st half.

My point is injuries go both ways. We caught a bunch of breaks last year that helped us get to 6 wins.
