I think he’s undoubtedly our RB1 next year. I understand many disagree. I’d like to see Moe take over Erv’s role and Markenzy/Dixon bring up the rear at RB. Assuming Jordan redshirts.

I was impressed on Dontae’s ability To communicate coverage in the backfield. I think he’s asked to run up the middle against NFL d line and LB talent far too much. He’s a good back who’s weighed down by questionable playcalling especially on first and third down. I was most impressed im his ability to be dsngerous within the opponents 40.

Lets hear other opinions. Our offense will never put 40 on the board until our running game is a major threat but i think its more on play calling.

I hope he is the 3rd down guy and someone else is the 1-2 down guy who can hit a home run. I hope Neal is the next Phillips and that we find 2 of that guy both not named Riley.

I appreciate what Sean Riley tries to bring to the table, but - he still looks like he's a 14 year old water boy who grabbed a uni and snuck onto the field somehow. He may be the fastest guy on the team, but he doesn't make many people miss, and goes down on fingernail "tackles" far too often.

Would really like to see Nykeim Johnson or maybe one of the shiny new Frosh speedsters take over PR and KR duties from him.

Agreed - Moe Neal could potentially be an even better version of Erv in the slot.
Hoping that some combo of RB's (not including him) are able to get it done next season, so we can play him in space like he aught to be used, rather than asking a 180lb kid to go between the tackles.
In a perfect world, one of the other RB's is so much better, that Strick is RB2 moving forward.

In a perfect world, yes. Its going to be years before pierre, jordan and dixon can compete for that rb1 spot imo though

It won't surprise me if Neal sticks at RB at this point.

I think we've got better depth at the slot that can cover the needs of that position. Neal improved a lot as a running back. Bit of a buried storyline though.

After watching Erv run those reverses from the slot, i think Moe takes over his role next yesr snd becomes our Tavon Austin. He’s certainly got enough wiggle.

Moe has improved a great deal, but like Erv drops a lot of passes. I prefer to see him out of the backfield.

I used to be onboard with making Neal the next Phillips. Now my thinking:

1. At this point, we should have slot WR’s that have been recruited for that role in the program, so we don’t have to convert another RB to that role.

2. Neal has actually shown that he can be a productive RB and looks much improved. Why start him over at a new position in year 3 when he looks to have become pretty good at his current position? It would’ve been a waste of time to play him at RB for two years if we do that. Phillips was at different spots under s previous staff, so that’s a completely different situation.

3. Our young OL should be improved next year and the combination of a more experienced line and an improved Neal in his 3rd year at RB would seem to be something that can succeed.

I would love to see Moe and Strickland split time. Strickland would be a great third down back, he catches the ball well and is big enough to pick up a blitz. Neal is a more natural runner.

Our de facto RB1 is ED. Struck doesn't have the natural instincts to play RB at a high level in P5.

We'll likely need two years to fix this position.

He wouldn’t be de facto rb1 if we didnt waste downs 1 and 2 with a run up the middle then 2 yard pass.

His miracle runs are a result of non tactful playcalling and a young line. Another reason ed’s a blessing

If you think he deserves the job bc he communicates the line calls correctly, them we are in trouble. I get it, that's an important role, but physically he does nothing very good. He has average speed, size, hands, and below average vision and instinct. Moe is lighter and runs more downhill and finishes runs. Moe has better vision and feel and instincts. It isn't even close.

We need a much better run blocking OL.

And much better running play calling.

Nothing has shown me that Strick can make the right cuts in the right time. Nothing.

Guy should be our starting safety.

Wont judge Strickland based on his runs up the middle against lines like Clemson, lsu, miami, nc state and fsu.

Will take into account the times he got the ball in space or actually got any semblence of blocking from our line.

Stricklands displayed wiggle snd speed, rewatch the Clemson game. The guy makes plays when he’s not being told to run into a brickwall.

Can someone please explain to me the importance of having a RB calling out assignments or whatever the heck they do? Do any other teams do that in college or pro? If it's something that is really not critical then I'd hate to have it be something that keeps a hotshot freshman running back off the field.

dino’s system not mine.

I think at least jordan would benefit from a year of our conditioning and I havent seen a lot from Dixon that’d make me believe he comes in and cracks the two deep in his first year

I'm not sure that we have a RB on the roster who's a true game changer. Maybe someone who redshirted and didn't play this year?

If we got better run blocking from the OL and called better run plays then Strickland could be fine. Neal too. Neither are top half ACC, at least from what we've seen so far.

Just to set things straight I think Moe’s worthy of the rb1 slot as well.

However, after watching how our slot operates this year I think until johnson proves he can consistently bring in his targets or someone else steps up, moe may be our best option and overall play maker at slot.

We have Jordan, Dixon, and Lutz (?, possibly a S) coming in. One (more?) may be the guy. But I agree about the OL.

Think Lutz was recruited as an inside receiver right?

Not entirely sure. He's listed on our FB recruiting board as S/RB.
