its surreal to me that I just read Chris Gedney's funeral arrangements

RIP

A fund has been established by the Syracuse Football Club to aid in the future support of Gedney's children. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Syracuse Football Club, PO Box 15009, Syracuse, NY 13215, or call Barb Nesci with a credit card at 315-884-4444.

This is an IRS tax-exempt organization. Donations are tax=exempt.

Flowers or other gifts can be sent to the family through the Thomas J. Pirro Funeral Home.http://www.syracuse.com/orangefootb...y_funeral_arrangements_set_for_this_week.html

I'm there sitting in front of Dave Shiroff (guy with crutches in back row) and next to John Wildhack. The women sitting in front of me all worked with Chris at the Orange Club. Chris's son Chase did a fabulous job... as did the Tim Ahern, (a very close friend of Chris) who delivered the eulogy. That picture was taken well before the start of the service. The church was much more filled than that. All those empty seats in the front were filled. I saw many former football players there, as well as OrangePA.

Tim Ahern gave an emotional and insightful Eulogy to Chris. He spoke of his courage and humility.

His account of Chris' refusal to accept the 2011 Zunic Courage Award was most striking.

Tim poignantly observed that oftentimes we do not see or recognize the pain that others feel.

It was an impactful tribute to Chris Gedney - a great athlete but a better man.

I’m hearing that no one from the current staff attended. If true, wouldn’t you think someone would be there? I know it’s still spring break, but this surprises me.

I saw John Wildhack, Chris Fuller, and Bob Arkelpane there as well as the complete Orange Club staff, and Matt Palumb was a pall bearer. I am sure there were others whom I did not recognize. Obviously, all the basketball people (and some senior athletic department people such as Herm Frazier) were in Dayton for the ASU game, but I did see many former football players.

Bailey tweeted that Lynch and Ward were in attendance.

It was some former athletes who had suggested that there wasn’t current football staff represented. Matt being a pall bearer doesn’t surprise me as I know that they were close.

One related note- today there was a remembrance service at Hendricks Chapel for students, faculty and staff who had passed away in the last year. It was a very nice service- a simple prayer, brief remarks by a couple students, a few songs by the choir. The Chancellor read aloud the names of all those who had passed- including Coach Mac, Chris Gedney, and Kelly Seubert- prior to laying a wreath outside.

As I was leaving, I noticed Coach Babers sitting quietly in back, as well as John Wildhack. I thought it was a classy gesture and wanted to share. Overall a simple, dignified service.
