...... I've never really liked, but that opinion has declined "big time" after his comments a few minutes ago on the NCAA Tipoff show. What a complete a*****e. The other guys on the show had nothing but good things to say about JB.

What did he say?

Let me guess. JB must be giving him the cold shoulder.

What did he say?

Essentially the jerk was wondering "Why three years? What good does that do?" DUH! The three years allows for some continuity with the program, new recruits, etc. I also feel JB is a little selfish for the team wanting to have one more shot at a title before he goes and also to not "totally" give in to the NCAA crap.

Ironic given that Seth's old man has made a career out of apologizing for a couple of outright liars.
Who's his "old man?"

Who's his "old man?"

Had to look it up myself.

Joyce, I worked with Seth at the New Haven Register. I was, in fact, his boss and he used me as a reference to get a job at SI.

He's actually a really nice guy, down to earth, but I don't always agree with him.

I rode him pretty hard, as most did, after his Montana pick.

My first thought upon seeing the thread title, "Seth Davis is a guy..." was to ask, "Are we sure about that?"

He's a dirtbag because his dad was special counsel to two presidents?

Can't say that I blame him for either.

I didn't call him a dirtbag (your words) and in fact he actually seems like an ok guy. Unfortunately he often has to defend the indefensible.

There is enough offensive stuff and cheap shots being said about Syracuse that I don't think we need to go looking for insults where none really exist. It's easy to see two or more sides to announcing a retirement 3 years away.

I am the effective CEO of my organization (although that is not my title). I am 61 years old. So people are beginning to wonder how long I am going to be around. Also, several other significant employees are in their sixties. Planning and playing out retirement strategies for the good of the organization that also respects and properly cares for people who have served the organization well is complicated and tricky stuff. Any one plan will find advocates and critics.

What an idiot... 3 years?!?! I'll tell you why:
  1. After the NCAA reduces the wins taken away from 108 to 24, three years is exactly what he'll need to eclipse 1,000 wins.
  2. Recruits the school is heavily involved with currently would be freshman in Boeheim's last year. So now, he can proactively recruit those kids still while selling the continuity of Hopkins being the guy. In order to land the elite kids, you have to start 2-3 years before they're college freshman.
  3. He gets 3 years to evaluate the replacement to determine if he thinks he's up to the task. There isn't a doubt in my mind that Boeheim would hate to the leave the program he built, only to watch it go through what several of the other elite schools went through. He built this program and if after 3 years he doesn't think Hopkins is up to the task, I believe he would counsel the AD to look elsewhere for a high quality replacement.
  4. SU will be replacing its AD next season. That gives Boeheim 1 year to get familiar with the AD. 1 year to work the AD to reinforce the importance of SU basketball. 1 year to hold his farewell tour.
  5. Scheduling is set for next year and likely well underway for the following year. Boeheim probably would prefer to pick some of his old rivals to conduct his farewell tour.
  6. Next year SU will be bringing in 4 very talented freshman. He gets 2 years to mold them and then go out with a real BANG!
  7. His youngest, the twins, will graduate in June 2018. He's going to have to tend to the "nest" with his last two being cast off the coming fall...

You're entitled to your opinion .. but this seems like an OTB post.
