Shafer pleased with Syracuse football coaching clinic, which included a key New Jersey high school

Sounds like Coach Shafer is trying to recreate his influential Chicago clinic for coaches based in the Northeast. Based on what he is saying and the feedback from the coaches on the board, I like what is happening.

It might not be sexy or flashy, but I think long term, this builds the connections, the trust and the foundation the program needs to re-establish itself as an Eastern power.

I had forgotten that he was going back out to the Clinic in Chicago last month.. from an article by Mink 2/14/14.

"Shafer will return to the area for the Glazier Clinic in two weeks, where he will lecture over the course of three, 50-minute sessions on an attacking defense out of the 4-3 base, pressure packages out of the 4-3 defense and pressure packages out of the Okie 3-4 look. Quarterbacks coach Tim Lester will also speak at the same time on quarterback fundamentals, the run game with pass options out of a spread look and drives and under route concepts out of the spread."

Great stuff.
Very encouraging for future recruiting.
I'm sure the coaches will spread the word to their colleagues.

I have one comment. Many on this board love the chastise our local sports news but in reality they often are the source for new information being posted here. Yes, sometimes they miss report things and post news already known, but it amazes me how we hammer them at times on this board, yet everyone is watching jus the same. I have been all over the country and followed many other local news networks, and I must tell you we don't have it near as bad as many others.

Not for nothing, but Finwad and Money both posted on the clinic 2 days ago. This board usually has information a couple days in advance of the PS

As to the post however, love the direction HCSS is going with the program, just didn't see the long term approach in these areas of needed growth in strengthening our recruiting in the NE other than what he was doing in the city with HCDM.

Actually that is great news...our board here is influential in giving the Syracuse.com writers ideas.

While on this topic, I will say this: I think Waters and Ditota turn out a lot of good articles and provide excellent coverage of the basketball program.

Coverage of the football program has been more historically more spotty. The loss of Rahme was an enormous one for the PS and Webb was never really replaced by a seasoned beat reporter.

Cohen leaving was addition by subtraction. I think Mink has been doing a good job providing day to day coverage recently. It has to be hard to cover this program given the staff's reluctance to give media good access to the day to day goings on. He at least is generating a lot of articles and avoiding the regular childish digs that often marred otherwise well written articles by Cohen.

Carlson hasn't done a lot of articles but his contributions seem to be increasing in frequency and quality. That article today on Hunt was an excellent piece.

I agree about Mink. He has always been pretty solid, especially with the limited access as you stated.

Getting St. Peter's Prep coaches to attend was a proverbial game winning touchdown!

Last year, I think we did them a solid. Didn't we sign one of their player's coming of an injury? A project of a recruit.
