Shafer's Season Opener Presser...

Shafer said Brisly Estime practiced really well yesterday. Eric Crume has the last two days.

Guard Nick Robinson will not play against Villanova. Staff wants to give him more time to heal with the ensuing bye week.

Estime and Crume will be ready to play, Shafer said.

Shafer said there will be opportunities for Estime and Ashton Broyld to play together, but he emphasized depth at H-back moreso.

Nice of Shafer to acknowledge the effort of the team managers, which must be an otherwise thankless job.

Our coach: "All I'm telling you is I'm sticking by him," Shafer said. "When his family situation is such that he says, 'I can get back,' we'll bring him back. If that's tomorrow, great. If that's during the winter, great. Either way, he's my guy, and we're sticking by him."

Geez, I like this guy.

Shafer is a very loyal guy. If his loyalty is not rewarded by Edouard, than shame on him.

SS was on Xm radio this morning and said much of the same stuff as his presser.. One thing he mentioned was he was more concerned about making sure his kids play at the level they want than how well the other team plays. he said most of those FCS upsets happen because the one team plays at a lower level then they do when the play other teams at their own level.

I wouldnt ever use brisly on a return in a Vill type game unless it was a game situation late.

I think it is ultimately the family situation that will decide what Edouard can and will do, not loyalty or lack thereof to Shafer and Syracuse.

Complete and total Speculation follows this line, I have no inside info or anything of the sort.

A few years ago my mother suffered a major stroke, and I was forced to stay at home to help out my family as opposed to going straight into Graduate school like I had planned. Even after we had developed a plan as a family and I could go to graduate school, I still had to be close to home (luckily SU was only an hour from home), if I had been supposed to attend a school across the country, I never would have been able to attend.

It is not even necessary that it be something so drastic for Edouard, but these things happen, and also these are why the concept of a redshirt was developed. Injuries or medical reasons to family members. It's nerve wracking, but soon enough Edouard will be up on the hill if SU has any say in the matter. Just remember that sometimes situations demand a change in future plans that is outside of everyones hands.

We have been fortunate to have high character coaches at SU. (Some were also really good coaches others not so much.)
