It's now late enough in the season for me to feel comfortable voting. I think there are only a few days left.

I try to take it seriously. Fans who only vote for players on their favorite teams drive me crazy. I am a Yankee fan and only Cano gets my vote this year.

I often look at the WAR statistic at fangraphs.com for help, but I don't have a ton of faith in their defensive metrics. For me the toughest decisions come down to how much one values offense versus defense.

Here's my ballot (not that you asked):

American League:
1B - Paul Konerko (White Sox)
2B - Robinson Cano (Yankees)
SS - Asdrubal Cabrera (Native Americans)
3B - Adrian Beltre (Rangers)
C - Joe Mauer (Twins)
DH - David Ortiz (Red Sox)
OF - Josh Hamilton (Rangers)
OF - Adam Jones (Orioles)
OF - Mike Trout (write-in [funny that the Angels two most deserving OF are not on the ballot])

National League:
1B - Joey Votto (Reds)
2B - Aaron Hill (Diamondbacks)
SS - Jed Lowrie (Astros)
3B - David Wright (Mets)
C - Carlos Ruiz (Phillies)
OF - Carlos Beltran (Cardinals)
OF - Ryan Braun (Brewers)
OF - Melky Cabrera (Giants)

Who gets your vote?

Solid choices. My changes to your list which could very well change day to day depending on my mood are:
AL
Cabrera - Tigers - DH

NL
Phillips - Reds - 2nd
Castro - cubs - SS
CarGo - Rockies - OF (Beltran off the bench)

Starting pitchers
AL - Verlander - top in ks, complete games, whip and innings
NL - Dickey (not a huge fan but he has the best stats through the first half of the year) with a slight edge over Strasburg

I'm the kind of guy who votes for who he wants to see, so I'm voting Beltran and Giancarlo Stanton in the OF over Cabrera.

Agreed w/ Castro over Lowrie and Cargo (over Melkly not Beltran)

Also Altuve (he's hurt but whatever) over Hill.

does anyone know if there any way to write-in more than one player per league on the official ballot? I want to write in both Trout and Middlebrooks in the AL (and Harper in the NL)

AL:
1B Konerko
2B Cano
SS Andrus
3B Middlebrooks
C Pierzynski
OF Hamilton
OF Trout
OF Jones
DH Dunn (crazy, I know, to select a guy hitting well below the Mendoza line, but jeebus, he produces a lot of runs)

NL
1B Votto
2B Altuve
SS Castro
3B Wright
C Molina
OF Beltran
OF Gonzalez
OF Harper

Hey, Dunn is hitting 215 this year.

NL 2B seems kinda weak if it's guys like Altuve or Aaron Hill.

yup . . . slump be damned, I'm still tempted to vote for Daniel Murphy

It's actually pretty strong. ..Altuve is killing it and Phillips is pretty good too

Also...Utley and Freddy Sanchez hurt and Uggla eating average-wise.

Uggla would have been my second choice - even with the low average, he still produces runs

I dunno, Hill and Altuve don't strike me as all star guys. Uggla and Phnillips are good players though.

Utley is (at least was) an awesome awesome player. Super underrated

It's almost like BA is overrated

I'd take Dunn in the Home Run Derby but no way on an all star spot. My question does Ichiro in potentially his last year get into the all-star (10x) game to pad his hall of fame stats even though he's probably not worthy this year?
