Should Fournette sit out next year?

No freaking way. And there's no way he WOULD sit out, either.

I mean hell, he could get injured this weekend. Should he sit out that game, too?

No chance of it happening nor should it. The amount of money he would lose by sitting out and potentially dropping a few draft spots is immense. Also Clowney isn't a great example to base opinion off of. Fournette, by all accounts, works hard at what he does and isn't just gliding by only on natural ability when he feels bothered to do so.

Here are the numbers for last years draftees by spot. Have to think he would drop a bit IF nfl teams haven't seen him for a year. Also, he could have some freak non football injury even if he sat out a year.

I would sit for sure. Get the agent, stay in great shape, do a bunch of job specific workouts, speed work, etc. rest the body, crush the combine.. get drafted top 1-5 and cash the check. If his agent spins it properly won't be a huge deal. He will have nothing to prove after this year if he wins heisman

Yeah, unfortunately I agree with IB. Why risk that exposure to violent contact? Every practice and game is a potential injury. That dude will have nothing left to prove at the end of this year. Let someone else have their shot next year, it won't hurt his draft status ... might even elevate him to legend status if played properly.

Gurley tore his ACL last year and still went 10th to the Rams. While I understand the argument for sitting I think he should play but LSU should not over work him.

Pretty soon football is going to be played with dresses, and two hand touch.

So because the game is more conscious of player safety that relates to the fact Fournette shouldn't have to wait 3 years from HS to play the NFL how?

I never said that, but he sure as heck shouldn't sit out a year because he is afraid of getting injured.

because by wanting to sit out a year he would prove to be a weak minded pussywillow who couldnt handle the truths he would find out about himself in a NFL lockerroom.

You are missing my point. Fournette sitting out would be about protecting himself from a workload at a position with a short selve life. The NFL doesn't need to see Fournette play next year to play in the NFL. The issue is why does every kid have to wait 3 years to enter into the NFL draft. 99% of players should wait 3 years but Fournette is that 1% who could play next year.
The NFL should have a panel that allows some kids to enter the league after 2 years. The NFL is a private business they could allow some Freshman or Sophomores into the league but they like the current model and won't do anything.

If Fournette sat out next year he would not prove anything you are saying he would be protecting himself just like teams protect themselves in player contracts. The fact the NFL has so much more power than its player's union when its the most popular sport in the country is amazing.

they have a panel.

its the players union.

they decided that the kids should stay in school.

and they should.

no exceptions.

According to the article, "Judges Sonia Sotomayor, Robert D. Sack and Lewis A. Kaplan backed the NFL's contention that its draft-eligibility rule should be exempt from antitrust scrutiny because it resulted from collective bargaining between the league and the players' union."

So if the Longshoremen's Union and the Port Authorities agree that no dock worker can be hired until they are 3, 10, 20 yrs? out of HS, these judges would agree with that? Don't understand that ruling.

Back to the OP, if I was LF I would seriously consider sitting out. His appeal can't get much higher and the NFL won't forget him in one year. Heck, there is a good possibly that his numbers won't be as good next season.

Unconstitutional? Not according to these judges:

You have to be 18 to work in a place that serves alcohol, you have to be a certain age to enter the military, you have to have required degrees for some professions, etc. This is really no different than that. They are saying you need 3 years out of HS so you don't get killed. It's a job requirement, no big deal.

I don't buy the three years out of high school so you don't get killed argument. There can easily be a two year swing in age for high school graduates so the three years should be replaced by a minimum age if that's the case. Also, bodies mature at drastically different ages for people so I throw that too counts against the out three years argument.
To me this is the NFL taking care of itself by using college as a minor league. Wouldn't all sports love to have that luxury? With the 3 year rule they have helped the colleges, themselves and the current players union.

MLB and the NBA have that luxury already ... its called minor league baseball and D-League ... NHL also has a minor league system. What would the NFL use other than college as a minor league system? Arena or CFL?
