I was shocked that Dino took a timeout vs putting Tommy in for a play. If he wasn’t hurt that says a lot.
It made sense in that situation as it was the first half (timeout less important) and it was third and a few so you want the better "dual threat" (I say that very softly..) in.

Dino said after the game there was no plan to put Tommy in for the game so that’s probably why they used the TO

Shraders best play may have been getting absolutely lit up, helmet flies off, and he just gets up smiling.

I won’t say him playing was the reason the rest of the team looked like they had swag/toughness, but I won’t say it wasn’t.

QB is the leader of the team, and when your QB smiles after getting lit up… that’s energy you can’t measure.

bigger story imo was that after the helmet issue dino burned a time out just to keep shredder in the game. otherwise he'd have to sit one play. speaks VOLUMES.

Agree with those above saying that Dino took the timeout to give them more time to review for targeting.

For any of his faults, Tommy knows how to hand the ball off for one 3rd and 2 play.

Unless the better play is to take the sack. He is a master at the RSO offense.

i really don't want to hate on tommy cuz as i imply above we will need an arm to win some games but i've often wondered why he doesn't ditch the ball more often rather than take the sack. is it a numbers thing ? sacks go on the o-line and incompletions on the QB.

Again, I think he took the timeout to give the refs time to consider a review for targeting. It was not an indictment of TD.

BINGO

Makes stats look good….

It says it all. Unless Shredder quits or gets hurt we have seen the end of the two QB monster

Maybe I am misremembering but they were looking at the targeting before the TO.

Didn't read your post correctly (so I'm editing that whole first paragraph). I also might be misremembering, but I didn't think any targeting review was whistled quickly.

This thought that they didn't want Tommy for one play sounds ludicrous speed to me. He's actually having a pretty good season if you don't count the 4th quarter against Rutgers when we were in throw only mode because our coaches forgot #34 was on the team after his long TD run.

I mean, perhaps because it was 3rd and 2, Dino wanted a GS RPO and ONLY a GS RPO, but I still don't think it's indicative of some kind of Tommy distrust. Or maybe he thought Servais would snap the ball over Tommy's head.

Just watched the replay and you cannot tell. From what I remember the ref said they were reviewing for targeting. Then after saying it wasn't targeting they announced that SU had elected to use a TO. Maybe Dino did take a TO and asked for a review, but the ref didn't phrase it that way. I remember thinking oh he used the TO to get Shrader back in.
