It's been a rough week for all of us, we all thought next year would be a vintage Syracuse year, and it still very well may be. Listen, as gloomy as it seems we still return 4 out of 5 starters (I know CM was hurt) and a top 5 recruiting class. To be honest, it is hard to not be negative about what has happened but I think there may very well be a silver lining to this scenario.

In my opinion, which I know doesn't mean much, the best chance JB had to win a championship if he stays for three years was with this recruiting class this year plus Battle and Moyer next year. Now, Battle isn't exactly a locked up recruit but still were in the thick of his core teams. Losing Rak to graduation, CM to the league, and Bryant to Indiana will force this recruiting class coming in to play more significant minutes right away. I know JB doesn't play a deep bench but we're just not deep, these kids will play a good amount more than we are used to.

Over the course of this year and next we will have a strong core of players who will play a lot of basketball together. I think it is a consensus that most of these guys while being great at their craft, aren't one and done players. These guys all have unique skill sets; it is one of the more diversified classes that I can remember. I think Lydon and Moustapha will grow into studs and Mali and Howard will give us two long guards on top who can shoot and pass. I was impressed with Richardson’s passing ability at the AA game, forget his shooting performance.

We may not be a top 25 team next year (I think we will be), but there is no reason to believe we won't be elite in the years to follow. Especially if we get Tyus who is in a league of his own it seems, plus Roberson is developing nicely. I just wanted to tell you all to step back from the ledge, the sky isn't falling. If you think these recruits haven't heard that the Syracuse proverbial ship is sinking and that they aren't working their tails off to prove everyone wrong, then you're fooling yourselves.

There are two teams in the final four right now who have a solid core of upperclassmen in Michigan State and Wisconsin. I think in three years that will be Syracuse basketball. In the mean time, I think we will still have good teams capable of doing damage. Most schools would die for what we have as far as a recruiting class goes and we’re on here convincing ourselves that for some reason we are screwed and this class isn’t up to snuff. It is people, have patience and watch them blossom into something beautiful. For all you people who hate the one and done, you will get your chance to finally see a team grow together and I think it will be a joyful process.

I think by the end of all this, we will come out better than most think. I can see a 2010 type of team in a few years, one where the basketball never stops moving and it looks like a work of art. Syracuse basketball will be okay! LGO!
