SI's top hoop programs...where SU ranks

Being behind Ohio State stings. I was at that elite 8 game at the TD Garden two years ago. If we beat them in that game, we have 2 consecutive FFs and we're ahead of them. Damn

I didn't read, so I don't know what was weighted more heavily for the rankings. History is pretty much a wash. Our success dates back to around the 1920's and they were a power in the 40's. Breaking it down decade by decade, we would probably come up even, with OSU getting honors around the middle of the century and us taking control in the latter part of the century. Very recent history is neck-and-neck for sure.

I would like to think we have the recruiting edge but I'm ignorant of Ohio State's recruiting. We probably bring in more revenue but I doubt it's significantly more and both coaches are are at the top of their profession.

The only point I can undoubtedly give to us is for the fanbase. No way Ohio State basketball has the fanbase we have. That's like comparing Ohio State's football fanbase to Syracuse's.

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that Thad Matta (despite his looks) is only 46 and not going anywhere -- whereas there's some doubt as to whether Hopkins can carry on Boeheim's success.

Glad we are ahead of Arizona. The wife went there. And just about everyone I work with. I'm already getting smack from the Zonies about their recruiting and pre-season ranking. They are a bit full of themselves out here.

But I am enjoying retorting with the ACC being pre-eminent. And that the Pac12 hasn't won a title since, oh, the last century.

As was I. Without a doubt, the most frustrating basketball game I've ever watched. The refs were absolutely horrible. HORRIBLE.
