...Gross' choices to replace Greg Robinson, in that order, before being "overruled" by the search committee's insistence on Marrone. Where would this program be now had Gross had his way upon firing Robinson? I appreciate that opinions on Marrone are polarized, but say what you will, very few coaches could have restored the fundamentals of a program the way Marrone did in the wake of Robinson's ineptitude. I keep asking myself why I'm so discouraged by the last few weeks being a fan of this program, and have come to the conclusion that Gross in the role of "CEO" of this program scares the daylights out of me. By all accounts, Gross had no contingency plan in place to replace Marrone when he left, despite the writing being on the wall being clear, and hired Shafer as a result of having no other viable options vetted. I truly think Shafer is doing all he can, but all signs point to him just not being equipped to handle the reins. The recent press conference performance in particular comes to mind. The whole history of this thing leaves me feeling very uneasy about the future. I hope I am wrong.
