Largely overlooked because of the preponderance of SU is #1 news, the Fine scandal and it's lack of mass popularity was the recent volleyball hiring of Leonid Yelin. For some mysterious reason he was pulling a gig as an assistant at Colorado after stepping down as Louisville's head man in January. Yelin who will be yelling from the Syracuse sidelines was 10-0 against SU during his Cardinal tenure. Look for SU volleyball to contribute in a positive way to our Director's Cup standings, something which is of utmost importance to Dr. Daryl Gross. Other than JB, I believe the fired Jing Pu was the last non Gross hired coach in the athletic program.

Desko is a non-Gross hire.

If we get a women's beach volleyball team, we just might do that.
we may need skype or a video board or something then.

The Mens Crew coach Dave Reischman wasn't hired by TGD.
How is he doing by the way? Seems we have had some good races over the years, but haven't really been able to push up from that 10-15 ranking?

We (they) just had a really great group of seniors graduate. Including Mike Gennaro who just rowed his way to 2 gold medals at the Pan Am games this summer. Due to scholarship restrictions recruiting is pretty cyclical for the team. I think they try to load up on 1 class every 3-4 years and try to make a run. Last year they finished 5th at the IRA's (the national championships for rowing). The amount of scholarship aid compared so some of the other big schools isn't close. So it kind of handcuffs the team... When I rowed there was a big contingent (including myself) of walk ons that had never rowed before college. I think we will have another decent year this year, we'll see how hard the guys want to work this winter :)

Cool and thanks! A friend of mine walked on during the 01-03 years. I think it was Sanford's final few years as HC. There were a couple of very good rowers back then as well. I've always been a fan of SU crew. I hope they do have another good year!
