Your 15 minutes of mediocrity is over.

I look forward to the entertainment and schadenfreude of your meltdown and the sweet taste of your tears of unfathomable sadness.

Oh yeah, and you're still going to be left to fester in the Big East.

Losers.

I don't get it. Everyone here says Schiano is a horrible coach. Couldn't him leaving actually HURT the cuse if they get a good coach there?

It could hurt in recruiting - which it does already anyways. We won't be playing them after this year so it doesn't matter in that regard.

11 year investment in the State of Rutgers was without dispute getting some excellent returns the last two years. The question is how firm is that foundation without Schiano.

and is the state of NJ (Rutgers) willing to continue pooring investments in to the program to take the next step? maintain? or sink back into the abyss?

its not a matter of he left its when he left-
it could kill this years class for them-

i would think with the state of money in jersey that they go cheap

I predict they hire Cignetti

be the safe bet-
but can he coach ?

a real bad year and they are back at the bottom

I predict they hire Cignetti

From a recruit standpoint this year, that is probably the best and quickest thing to do. But they have to decide if that is the best long term.

I wouldn't be so optimistic.

Schiano is leaving a solid program.

He may have recruited well, but he seemed to be an inept game coach.

Somebody new could actually improve the performance on the field.

absolutely correct--the infrastructure is in place as is recruiting

The 800lb gorilla of conference affiliation remains. A good young coach may take the bait, but an established guy is not running over there...

All depends on who they can get to come in as their head coach.

I think you can talk about Schiano's mediocre performances on the field all you want, but a new coach is going to have struggles adapting his philosophy with the players that are still there, regardless of how much talent is there. At least IMO.

It could go both ways.

You also have to keep in mind that the BIG EAST isn't exactly a top-tiered conference to be coaching in. While one coach could look at it as being an opportunity to dominate a lower-level BCS conference, another coach could see it as no guarantee that you'll be able to sustain success without an assurance that a BCS bowl bid is there.

It is POSSIBLE that Rutgers gets better, but not probable by any means.

I wouldn't want Al Golden to end up at RU. How bad is it for him at Miami right now? Hopefully conference affiliation (and salary?) keeps him away from the job.

Solid? This is a program that's never finished higher than third in the worst BCS conference. He may have been a bad gameday coach, but he recruited well, just didn't make them any better than mediocre.

This is their firing Pasqualoni moment, they don't have the money to go out and get a big name coach, they're going to be stuck behind in the Big East shitshow.

They are so screwed.

Forgetting about SU poaching anyone, if RUT dosen't have what seems to be a long term solution in place ASAP, I don't know why any kid would go there given the Big East's future.

there's no chance they are getting a guy like golden or addazio this late in the game. They are going to have to hire some unproven coach or promote someone on staff.

Addazio maybe but to the OP why would Al Golden leave Miami for Rutgers?

Agree, sort of.

GS recruited well, but as bad as his game day coaching could be, I think he was worse at managing his roster.

Three years, three true freshman quarterbacks. That is a recipe for disaster. A lot of, throw a freshman out there, if he doesn't succeed immediately, offseason position change. I just think that's stupid.

An established coach would be huge, but who? Not buying Keeler or Addazio. An assistant, eh, if you don't commit to whoever it is, that could be disaster. You might be forced to go that route due to The Situation in NJ, heh. Cristobal won based on recruiting. Think he's more of the same.

I will start by saying that I highly doubt this even happens. This type of flirtation is a Schiano ploy. Right out of his playbook. He isnt' going anywhere.

However, if he does actually bolt, I'm surprised people are taking this as a negative for Rutgers. Rutgers fans are too dumb to know this yet, but their current head coach was the face of mediocrity. A salesman, a program builder, absolutely. But the man was never going to win there. This is the absolute best case for Rutgers if they can get a Cristobal or Addazio or Golden. Golden is a long-shot but he's be the first person I call if I'm Tim Pernetti.

Thankfully for us, none of this really matters seeing that we are off to greener pastures.

Addazio isn't going there, he's done well enough that his sights should be set on a major program like Al Golden did.

Agree, and I feel like an idiot for even speculating, because again, I will believe it when he's on the Bucs' podium.

I don't understand why people think Rutgers can hire a team's current head coach right now. No coach is that big of a scumbag to leave his team 5 days before signing day (Besides Schiano).

They also probably won't have a huge budget either judging by the school's issues with Schiano in the past.

They'll settle for an OC/DC with no HC experience or a retread that was recently fired a la Ralph Friedgen (just throwing a name out there, doubt the Fridge goes to Rutgers.)

How about...
