They had a week to prepare for Daniels and that was a flop. Our linebackers got eaten up in the spread read option plays and the scrambles. How are we gonna do better this week?

I'm not all that worried about it. Defense is at a disadvantage more often than not in college football. You'll have some clunkers. We were on a roll but it had to end some time.

It's a secret.

Well, we're not playing Daniels this week. That's an improvement.

I'm not that worried about it. The D has really come together the last three games--played very well since Pitt. They obviously got gouged on Saturday, but that is the unit that I have the least amount of concerns with down the stretch.

It might be one of those things where instead of being a cause for concern, we can expect them to perform well this Saturday given how they got pushed around against USF.

Abernathy is Q U I C K. He is also patient. They run a lot of pro-type zone stretch plays and he'll wait for the hole and burst for 10-15. Really I think he's got the best pure acceleration of any of the backs in the BE with high end speed. Really need the CB's read runs quick/get off blocks well and be a factor in stopping the run. Keon Lyn, this means you.

Also can't have Wilkes take bad angles or Shamwow fall at his feet or there will be multiple long TD's. Munchie has some shake to him but those zone reads can be negated if he takes a couple pops and apparently we hit hard. The timing of blitzes will be key. Need to rattle his cage backside and get him off. UC has lots of fast guys he can get it to though. It will be a challenge to hold them under 400 yards and 28 points, but I think that is the line needed for victory.

That is if the 2nd half USF Offense shows up.

How do we know the D's strategy against Daniels was a flop? Because of the number of points? If the strategy was to contain the passing game, allowing BJ the opportunity to run within the 20's, then we did pretty well. Our strategy against the rest of the run game was less than stellar, but I don't see the big deal with BJ. We kept him below his average rating, completion percentage and well below his average yards. It's hard to say our strategy failed when no one here knows what it was. Quit honestly, I was more worried about Davis than I was BJ and except for the one long TD, the D pretty much hemmed him up.

Hope you are right. Pitt, Rutgers and Uconn featured pro-set, power running and traditional drop back QBs. USF, obviously, was a return to the read option/spread attack and running QB - the style this team seems to have the most trouble defending. Cinn might be more of the same in that they have a spread O, speed at the WRs, and very mobile QB.

I am not so sure that USF was an aberration.

Shark seems beat up, more than usual and I think that too was a cause of the success USF had. It might just take a few adjustments from the dline or lb's regarding not getting trapped as well. I think it was a good thing playing usf first and it will get Shafer and staff more ready for Cincy then it would if SU played Cincy first. Marrone said the Cincy oline is really good so it is going to be a heck of a challenge for the D...I think they're up to it and the backups are going to have to step up this weekend because I believe they are going to get more snaps..

The big runs tilted away from Diabate and Davis, who got blocked by one guy once and got tangled up with each other a couple times. Gotta think that's something Daniels saw before the snap.

Crazy, you watch USF on a random Thursday night game and watch him throw 3 picks every time but the Daniels that showed up to play Syracuse three of the last four years was pretty damn good.

It is tough to defend broken plays. Guys were covered down field and then Daniels starts scrambling around and has a lot open green in front of him being chased by 290 pound dlineman.

How do you keep Munchie from scrambling? It'd be great if we could force him to beat us with his arm.

The 2nd half adjustments seemed to work.

1st half:
350 yards and 23 points

2nd half:
190 yards and 13 points

Thats is what I attributed it to at first but then there was the run D vs NW. That is what gives me hope that USF was the outlier.

I know you live in Joisey, how bad did you get hit by Sandy?

was it scheme or execution thats the question to ask the coach tomorrow, whether he would reveal the answer who knows. there had to be something USF did, but even the 80 yard run was really a 5 yard run with 3 missed tackles. its clear though the USF saw something in our scheme, because several of the QB runs were simple jail break runs around end when we over loaded .

weather could of been a factor with all the missed tackles and our offense being in neutral for the 1st half with a humid night

Weather looks decent for Saturday High 50-55, no chance of rain, winds about 10mph. We should be able to pass the ball. The offense and STs are going to have to win this for us.
