So who will emerge as the leader of this team?

IMO, in a quiet way, I think it will be Ennis. He looks like he is developing into a steady, low-turnover guy like Sims, but not afraid to fire a three when it comes to him. He will have the ball a lot, which is good. When we need a shake-up wake-up, it will be Keita.

I say Ennis as well but the guys who will really inject energy into the team are Cooney and Grant. They are the most explosive be it a monster dunk ( CJ in this category too) or a three/breakaway dunk.

I would guess that the two seniors -- CJ and Baye -- will emerge in that role. But figure to be in the game at crunch time and are experienced enough to be trusted with the game on the line. My opinion only, but the point guard is so important to game flow, I'm hoping that Ennis also emerges, as he'll have the ball in his hands at key situations.

Aside from the senior/experience leadership of CJ and Baye, I'm going to throw a surprise candidate into the discussion... Mike Gbinije. I believe he's going to have a fantastic year and may stun a lot of people by being strong competition with JG as our star 6th man. In these few games he has played with excellent energy, is very disruptive at the top of the zone and appears to be capable at point and comfortable handling the ball. And, HE was the one that started driving and getting to the rim against Colgate, to lead by example. I realize he has not had any great stat lines in these games yet but I definitely see excellent ability and leadership qualities in him.

I see a few leaders.
Offensively its CJ. Defensively Keita and maybe Gbinije if he is our best defender at the top of the zone, if not just Keita.

That doesn't necessarilly mean they will be our best players some nights though. Your best player any given night can easily become a leader that night like southerland last year. I think Cooney is the next closest to being a leader but won't quite grab the consistancy. Ennis is to laid back smart ready to run a offense but laid back even on a aggressive shooting night his leadership will have to come with emotion and thats the last thing he needs to work on right now.

I agree, I'm not going to lie I was very unsure about him going in to the games that counted after watching the games in Canada and the two exhibition. He has really improved and looks to really fit in so far. His slashing ability looks strong right now, and his jumper looks to be better than I thought it would be. He looks really steady and composed on the court. He gives really good effort up top in the zone and could possibly be the best of the 3.

I would agree that Silent G has kind of snuck up on us. We gave up on him, and now here he is, making a reputation for himself. I am not sure he is the leader, though. I would like it to be Ennis, since he's the point guard, but I think he is very quiet, like Triche. Baye will be the leader when he's out on the floor. It would be great if CJ could take it on, but to paraphrase Popeye: "He yis what he yis."

Maybe Cooney? He's a crowd favorite. This is actually a very important question. The team needs a leader!

So far, it's been Cooney and BMK IMO. Cooneys really taken it upon himself to be talking to everyone and trying to pump everyone up.

And I think Keita has really grown into being a leader.
