This has become kind of a weird sub plot to me.

Last season our defense arguably fell apart because we wore down our starting linebackers, at least in part. They played almost every snap, every game.

So far this season, in two romps, the backup linebackers were the last unit on defense to see snaps, and even at that haven't seen a whole lot of game action. Even though Babers in the preseason said they need to do a better job of spreading snaps around the linebackers to keep them fresh through 12 games.

What gives? I have a hard time believing that Guthrie, Whitner and Armstrong have separated themselves so much from the rest of the LB group, because, well... they just aren't that impressive. Does the LB coach just not like going to his bench?

I'm having a hard time making sense of what I'm seeing.

guessing they want them to get as much work as possible since they hadn't played much in there positions before
I guess that's reasonable.

We can play them as much as possible now, so that they're a cohesive starting unit late in the season... when they're broken down by how much they've played.

Or we can spread the snaps around, and they won't be as cohesive a starting unit late in the season... but they'll hopefully be relatively healthy and fresh

Babers referenced in the post game wanting to get them as much run as possible trying to gain them more experience. I was looking forward to seeing what some of the second teamers like Shy could do but I get what he was trying to do.

I probably should have listened to that

This is a very good observation and I'm also really miffed at a number of the apparent decisions on defense. Especially in terms of personnel. I also think its gotta be tough because I see a number of instances of guys doing a certain thing really well but significantly lacking in another area. I think very few guys on the roster are playing at a very high level where they are the full package.

I was excited to see some of our young linebackers run around and hit people and was disappointed when that didn't happen. I think our current linebacker crew is limited and wanted to see what we had with some of the young talent.

I would love to see the young guys get run too cause I ain’t really impressed with what is happening so far. Getting blocked to easily when we ain’t blitzing.

Which young LB's? The 2 deep has juniors at all 3 backup spots. Our top 6 LB's on most recent depth chgart is 2 seniors and 4 juniors. That's not youth. Unfortunately it is the worst of all possibilities in that they are inexperienced upper classmen.
