syracuse with just 2 players in the top MPG . JG3 at 11 and junior mintz at 18. strange anomaly.
FGA: again jg3 at 5 and mintz at #7.
3 pt % : benny at 13 (.396) and joe at #23 (.381)
ft att : judah at #3 and jesse at #7.
rpg : jesse at #2 (10.3) . next up is maliq at #34 (1.9). you can see where this is an issue.
assists. judah #6, joe 22.
steals : judah #1, jesse surprisingly at 11.
blocks : jesse ranks #1 at 2.7 per.
turnovers : judah and joe are # 7 and 8. jesse at #22.

and for the bogus ref conspiracy theorists. syracuse committed just 427 fouls to the opponents 524. and took 147 more free throws. does that sound rigged ?

well, total fouls for and against doesnt really mean much of anything as far as fairness of officiation.

Are you for some reason assuming that fouls are totally random occurences that should be even in the long-term? If so, I could understand why you think as you do.

However, fouls are NOT RANDOM...not at all. So there shoulde not be an expectation that fouls should even out.

More importantly, the Cuse tries to avoid fouling more than other teams. The zone alos helps with this. JB coaches his players to hold their arms straight up in the air and not go for blocks often times, for example. Not many other coaches do this FYI.

If you look at the way JB coaches and instructs his players on D - it is clear his teams should almost always foul less. they actively avoid contact as a rule...

Is the 100 gap what it should be? not sure...but a 100 foul gap in and of itself does not imply that everytjhing was called fairly...perhaps the "real gap" was 200...isnt that possible???

Big picture - it shows that this season was a wasted opportunity - being able to earn 100 more foul calls than opponents indicates a more athletic and skilled team...with the record they had, shows they didnt live up to what they couldve been., most likely.

??? Cardiac covered this but are you saying that you think if fouls in a game are say 20 to 20 that makes it a fair game by the refs? I hope that isn't what you are saying.

You forgot ppg. Joe 6, Judah 8, Jesse 19.

When’s the last time we didn’t have a player in the top 10 for mpg?

Also forgot FG% Jesse 1 and FT% Joe 3.

And you must have misread the reb numbers. Brown and Williams were both 4+. Also on 3pt% Joe was 4 and Benny doesn’t show. Probably a minimum taken thing.

so you're saying you're cool with the officiating as long as the calls are 2/1 ?
well what fan wouldn't be !

you will foul less in a zone. it's becuz nobody's playing in your face/jersey type of defense. thus all the wide open treys. fact is early years JB only went to the zone just to protect players with fouls cuz he hates to sub his stars.
but we did not play zone all year. in fact several contests we trailed BIG TIME and it was the infamous trunk monkey press and intentional fouling. so given the HUGE discrepancy in fouls committed and ft's taken the ACC SCREWS US crowd is basically left without any ammunition to build an argument. clearly less whistles against than for the opponents . you were given a gift. and speaking of arguments Judah was argumentatively the biggest flopper in the league. it was dukesque in scope and breadth. hit the court nearly every drive
dude was the Lippmann mop spokesperson wiping up the paint.
in summation the tired old "we get no calls in the ACC crowd" can take a seat. we finished plus side in practically every game we played. and still missed the dance..

Another retort to this foul conversation would be Syracuse gives up lots of easy back doors and lots of 3s with zero face up Defense normally, not many opportunities for fouling. Your argument is pretty weak if you’re just looking at gross numbers.

so you would trade playing less defense for more free throws. interesting strategy

That went from data analysis to an opinionated rant rather quickly...

Bell not getting a single rebound for the first 25 games clearly hurt his average ;)

Jesse had 330 total boards , Bacot had 334 total boards. Just 4 boards lower. Need Jesse back next year!

What? No? Im telling you why the free throw discrepancy cannot be used to conclude whether Syracuse gets a favorable number of calls or not

1. a few well timed calls/non-calls can swing a game and be decisive...I do think that hurt the team at times this season and cost a few games (and winning some of those games coudlve changed the season, fwiw)

2. I think on balance, the refs didnt cost a ton of games for the team this season...it wasnt as bad as it has been, imo...but it did often just objectively suck...for example, I thnk the refs try to keep games close...which IS NOT THEIR JOB...or shouldnt be.

with the Orange, .i think especially once the team started really losing after the good ACC start...the reffing was almost sympathetic and relatively fair

but the JB Orange - drive to the hopp play 1 on 1 and play one and play not to foul...so they SHOULD win the foul shot advantage no matter who they play and who they have on their squad, mostly, imo

3. I am not saying at all that I am cool with reffing as long as it is in favor of my team, at all. I want fairley reffed games to watch...and high quality reffing.

One reason is playing zone. It’s supposed to protect players more from committing fouls.
Here’s a link regarding it.
Sorry saw that others covered that well.

A lot depends upon who the opponent was. Check out the boxscore for SU vs. UNC
