Some Class of 2014 Q & A

This article was an interesting read--thanks for posting it, OE.

My favorite observation in that article is that often it doesn't pay to be in early on a kid. Too many things change between 16 and 18 years old, kids develop at different paces. That four star kid pre Junior year may not be a year later, and that two star kid may have finally hit stride.

Other than the true can't miss kids, you never really know what you've got until a kid has a yeAr or so in a system, and time to get on the weights.

The thing is that there are kids that dream of playing for SU "up the road", it's just that they usually aren't the kind of athlete that you can consistently win with at this level.

That's why it really pays to have the best talent evaluators in-house. They can see past the seemingly up and down nature of stars, high school systems, changes from year to year, etc.

That also explains lag in the rankings vs on the field production. And vice versa.

That's really a better way of putting it. I think that's what he meant by his statement, it just came across a little different reading it the first time.
