Talked to Dan Tortora on the hill the morning of the BC C game at the newly named watering hole previously known as Lucies Retired Surfers bar. When I walked in Dan was open mic interviewing Robert Drummond. I love Robert but he was openly and blatantly negative about the direction of the program. His biggest gripe was Cuse not winning recruiting battles for local NY kids. His song and dance got old quick especially when I was in total beer buzz mode to give Shafer and staff a nice send-off. NYS Upstate HS Football is currently so bad that a recruit like Ashton every 10 years is the state of the union. Anyways, After Robert took off, Dan and I had a candid chat about the program and his love for some off the staff. He stated that Adam knew his days were numbered(Dan was very close with Adam) and his biggest regret would be not seeing his young Offensive line realize their potential in a few years. He thinks they could be dominant, collectively as a group. Was really interesting to hear. Encouraging.

Good post.

Many people complained about Adam because we played with a very experienced OL with less than stellar results. I mentioned on here more than once, that talent usually trumps experience.

Imo, our most talented OL (excluding Conway who is very talented) red shirted this season. In most cases, I think their athleticism should fit well in HCDB's system.

I would have liked to have seen Adam brought back as a DB coach. To my surprise he turned out to be one of, if not the best recruiter on the staff.

For the pure experience and supposed talent level we had coming back, the OL SHOULD have been better this year. Joe Adam did not coach up the OL anywhere close to what Daust on the DL was left with (and I understand that is a bit apples to oranges, but directional.)

Disagree we had a serviceable oline at best, all the talent and best players were young.

The overall point backs up what I've heard as well. The last staff was EXTREMELY high on this past year's freshmen OL, Adams and Conway in particular. They thought those two would be bookend tackles for the next few years.

Except many of those guy played better in 2012 and 2013 than they did the last two years. I think injuries had a lot to do with it, but it's not good when in a developmental program guys that started as freshmen and sophs actually regress.

I've always felt if you have a strong OL and a very good DL you can create and hide so many options/things. To me, the most important but yet the hardest to evaluate. It looked like XHCSS was on the right path and if HCDB can continue or even turn it up a notch...WOW, watch out.
